Hi. I have two computers .... an iMac and a MacBook, both fairly new and running the El Capitan OS. Firefox is always my preferred browser. Lately I've been receiving alerts to update to Firefox 49, and have now done that on my desktop. However, after asking a related question here in this forum, I have received responses telling me that there are problems with version 49 and therefore I should stick with 48. I am so confused! I am not a super techie person, and now I'm worried that I may be doing some kind of damage by running 49 on my iMac .... am I supposed to try and go back to the previous version (no idea how I would do that) .... should I not update to 49 on my MacBook? Sorry about all these questions at once but I'm really worried and have no idea what's going on. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much in advance.

Firefox 49 was released last Tuesday, and it has some important changes but I'm not aware of any major problems on Mac.

The change most Mac users seem to have objected to is the "Recently Bookmarked" section added to the Bookmarks menu, which you can remove. (For steps, see: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1140009.)

If your Firefox really "undid" its own update, as mentioned in the other thread, that's bizarre. I don't know what would cause that.

Thank you so much! Tremendously helpful and I really appreciate the specifics, including the links. I now feel safe going forward with the other update. And also .... regarding the update "undoing" itself, I agree it's bizarre indeed! After a good amount of thought my guess is that perhaps I just left out a step somewhere (like restarting or some other little detail) that would have "confirmed" the changes. Just a guess from this somewhat tech challenged person. But I figure if I made it "stick" on the desktop I can do the same on MacBook. In any case thanks once again for your help .... much appreciated.
