Having trouble with add-ons. When I click 'install' I get a msg saying 'install prevented' when I click 'allow' I get 'connection error'. Anyway of fixing this?

So I'm trying to install an add on and every time I hit 'install' I get a message saying. "Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer." When I click, "allow' it says, "The add-on could not be downloaded due to a connection failure" Yet my connection is completely fine.

Is your connection fine on all sites including secure sites or do you sometimes see error messages and maybe even have to set exceptions ?

What are the add-ons and where are you downloading them from ?

My connection is fine on all sites yes. I'm trying to install something called BeeLine Reader. It changes text to gradient to make reading easier. I'm downloading it directly from BeeLine's own site.

I checked that out and temporarily installed it. I note it is limited use software with nag screens and is free to use for only 30 days before restricting it to 5 uses per day.

It is not a signed add-on so it can not be installed on your Firefox 48. You should contact the site and let them know it can not be used on the current Firefox Release unless they get it signed,

Okay! So basically I won't be able to install it at all on my own firefox until they update it?

That is correct - partly.

You can not install it on standard Firefox, You can install it as I did on special editions of Firefox, but that adds other complications and is probably not something you will want to do.

This signing is basically a security measure, add-ons now have to pass automated tests to prove they are safe. If the add-on has not been signed the providers may be aware it is not safe to use with Firefox or either snoops on you which may be against the Mozilla Firefox rules or breaks Firefox.

Hmm, I got a version to install normally on Firefox 48.0.2 using the green button on

Note to self: do not test while filling out a form!

Sometimes users encounter the connection error message when the extension file is installing from a different server than the main page. If you try their other page, does it work any better:
