After using search for "Joe Blow", a number of emails show up (36), but how do I find out which folder the email is in? I think they are actually deleted long ago. I cant find them in any of my folders, which are well organized. None of the 36 show up when I click "show email as list. Where are they? Does this have something to do with archive, or compacting?

thanks

more likely a search index that has somehow become out of step with reality.

GO to The troubleshooting entry on the help menu (ALT+H) click the show profile button. Close Thunderbird (most important as we are doing brain surgery) Delete the file global-message-db.sqlite. Restart Thunderbird Wait for the index to be rebuilt. anything from a few minutes to half a day depending on how much you have to index how fast the computer is and what else it is doing as this is a background task.
