Hello I have a bunch of tabs, and some of them get periodically replaced with some javascript code? I'm not sure, but i did find a few people that have exactly the same problem:

http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/161366-Code-in-Firefox-after-closing-all-tabs

And further this:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Internet_Email/Web_Browsers/Q_28246484.html

Now ,my pc is windows 7 ,running whatever the last version (always up to date) of firefox was at the time (a few months ago it started and then happened a few times)

I still have the tabs sitting like there like that , and would appreciate if there's a solution. I would like a solution to prevent it from happening again and i want to understand what the meaning of the code is and if there's somewhere within it that i can find the lost webpages.

Thank you

Thank you jscher.

These are all the yellow lines, they supposedly represent some kind of change with the favi icon, is that correct?

How can i file a bug about it like you said? I do want to be a 100% sure about this.

Also i just noticed that most if not all the yellow lines are wikipedia pages. Would that be because of wikipedia changing their icon or?

Hi shadyz, unfortunately WinMerge doesn't handle long lines nicely so it's hard to be sure that it's just the icons without doing a huge amount of horizontal scrolling, or modifying the files prior to comparison by inserting a line break before ICON= throughout the document.

I can certainly see Wikipedia changing its icon from time to time, but not just on Tuesdays, or whatever day you are getting the different result. That seems bizarre.

You can file a bug here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

This article has tips on what information to include so that it is teed up as well as possible: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines

After you post the bug and get a link to it, please add that in this thread for future reference.

This is the addon that could potentially be causing some issues, i don't think it is the same as mentioned in the thread you posted ,which thanks for that ,it's good to know there's other people with the same issue. I'm not sure if it could potentially be the culprit to my tabs problem though.

I also sent you a .doc file here https://app.box.com/s/2zmmz0qipj4sf4v2enal

That's another example of another two links outside of winmerge

Well i bring back the backup that has the 300kb ,and then 6-7 days after it it happens.

Hey jscher, can i ask you how i can make sure ? I don't understand how to follow your directions and i do want to solve this 1 issue at least

My question is ,should i keep backing up the bookmarks file or just continue with the assumption that it's the same bookmarks file with some minor correction of the wikipedia icon that somehow only comes up every 7 days ? It should happen again tommorow or today ,so i really do want to know

Does it even make sense for firefox to be losing data over wikipedia changing their icon?

more options

Hi shadyz, if the only change is the encoded icon data, it's not critical because Firefox will re-retrieve the icon the next time you visit the site.

As for whether to make daily exports, it depends on the frequency with which you add new bookmarks. You might be able to get by with one or two exports a week if you don't add a lot of bookmarks.

Well, what i'm saying is that when the 7th day bookmarks file gets 300kb smaller, i delete it and i replace it with the 6th-day bookmark. That's what i've been doing for the last few... well months now.

So yes i do have a lot of them ,but this was more accurately my question. Should i keep doing that ,and is it just this icon thing that changes. Because if it's really just an irrelevant change that happens with the wikipedia icon ,that's one less thing i need to be doing.

I haven't compared the whole files, so I can't say for certain that it's just the icons.

more options

Hmmm, I did send two examples and a picture from winmerge

more options

Okay, it happened again, this time it's 327409 bytes, so slightly less.

more options

Oh, sorry, I only saw the two comparisons of different Wikipedia bookmarks. In those examples, the only difference was the icon data. So, while I suspect similar icon differences throughout the file are the culprit, I can't be 100% sure based just on two examples.

more options

Well, i guess i will try to test it for 7 days and see if it's okay. I did test a few more links that the winmerge program found and i haven't found any that aren't wikipedia links and any that aren't still in the 7th day bookmark, so hopefully it's just an icon. I just thought someone would know if it even makes sense for this whole thing to happen in the first place , vis-a-vis the favicon changing like that

Could this s.ytimg be an adobe virus?

Could it be a firefox memory error?

I don't know what this means or if it's related, but I recently received this error:

This operation failed due to a file access error: Component returned failure code: 0x8007000e (NS_ERROR_OUT_OF_MEMORY) [nsIScriptableUnicodeConverter.convertToInputStream](NS_ERROR_OUT_OF_MEMORY)

This error occurs when there is not enough memory available to carry out an operation, or an error occurred trying to allocate memory.

I actually do have enough memory to save pretty much anything mozilla would try to allocate.

Hi shadyz, you wrote:

Maybe. It could also be one of your extensions or an interaction among them.

You previously wrote "I'm not sure what triggers the tabs to change into code (and it's very irregular) , so i can't know if it stops happening in safe mode."

What I suspect is that an extension or interaction is opening a hidden tab, and later, for one reason or another, the hidden tab is becoming visible. However, that's just a guess.

Could it be a firefox memory error?

Out-of-memory errors can occur when the programmers underestimated the maximum amount of memory a process would need. I don't think that would generate any new mystery tabs, though.

What is the file size of the sessionstore.js file?

You can also try to free up some memory by removing tab history and recently closed tabs/windows.
