2 firefox processes?
Hello,
So I went to take a look at task manager and noticed there was 2 firefox.exe processes
one being the usual 300k memory usage and another being around 4,000-8,000. I right clicked it and went to where this process was located and it directed me to the normal firefox folder with nothing out of the ordinary. I ended the process without a problem and it stayed away.It didn't come back or nothing. I checked my registry and nothing was out of the ordinary too.I scanned my computer with avast and malewarebytes and they both didn't detect anything.Checked my established connections as well and nothing suspicious. Im questioning..what was this?Its making me very anxious.

Flash can be updated to version 15, Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.5.5" can be updated to I think version 11 (note you also have this installed twice)

Hi PAULFLS, Here are a few troubleshooting questions to eliminate suspicion:
- What are the names of the processes? What is plugin-container
- Do you have more than one install of Firefox? You can check in the Control Panel under the list of Programs.
I only have 1 installed firefox

also a little more info:I use adblock only and I do have internet issues [my internet being 1mbps] as for plug-in container its a normal plugin- container.exe
Also when I booted up my laptop it showed up again but this time as 1k memory.Though I don't know if it was there before or after I opened firefox. I opened firefox then task manager and it was just there.I ended the process and it didn't come back.

About the Task Manager, if you click on Name at the top of the column, the list will be sorted.
My issue is similar but much more severe. My computer stays on 24/7 but I close Firefox every day when I am finished with it. My problem is that almost every day when I start work there is a "firefox.exe" process running but Task Manager indicates there are no active applications. I am in the troubleshooting phase where I verify every night that the Firefox application and process are not running. The errant process seems to grow in size over time and eventually uses 3-4 x the memory my normal application does. Today it indicated over 10M I/O actions where my normal application count is a fraction of that. I can delete the extra process without affecting operation of my other Firefox application and process.
I have tested this condition for over a week and it is very repeatable. I have turned off all of the Firefox reporting and it does not make a difference.
I use Norton IS and keep my system up to date. I can not identify any virus or other malfunction.
What condition causes Firefox to execute the process without the system knowing the application is running?

FredMcD - That is how I got to the place where I added my note. I followed that process again but do not understand where you gain access to my system details. Is it possible that I need to open a new thread?

By looking at your system details, we sometimes can see what the problem is, for example, outdated programs/plugins, virus activity, improper settings.
Sometimes, a big problem just needs a little tweak to fix it.
Go to the top of this page. On the right find Question details. If nothing is displayed, press its down arrow. Left click on More system details. Do not bother to try to understand it. Its something that one must learn. Take a look anyway.
