Yesterday the default page for my Firefox browser changed - was this from Mozilla?

The home page for my Firefox browser now has a Gone8.com log + some ad at the bottom - wasn't there the day before yesterday - Did Mozilla change this or has some 3rd added something? IF it's a third party how do I get rid of it? I tried resetting the default page but nothing changed.

Hi dordeknet, does that page only appear at startup, or every time you open a new window (e.g., Ctrl+n)?

  • Only at startup: check the program icon you use the start Firefox to see whether a new URL was injected into the target path. Right-click > Properties > Shortcut tab.
  • Every time: if Firefox is not honoring your home page setting in the Options dialog when you open a new window or click the Home button, make sure you've disabled everything in the Extensions section of the Add-ons page (Ctrl+Shift+a > click Extensions in the left column).

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

Screen shot plus other notes saved in .docx document - is there anyway to attach a docx file to a response?

I don't think the forum software handles non-image files yet.

I meant to ask: are you using the built in Firefox home page (the one you can display by typing or pasting about:home in the address bar and pressing Enter)? Or is the problem on a different page?

We're getting there!! Thanks

The page in questions only appears if I double click the Firefox icon on my desk top. If I enter Ctrl+N I get the "old page" - the one I'm use to (same page I get if I enter about:home in the address bar- thanks for that tip).

I checked the target on the properties page of the icon - it has been changed (now includes .....Qone8.com.... ) - here's the full line:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" http://start.qone8.com/?type=sc&ts=1383173882&from=amt&uid=HitachiXHTS542516K9SA00_080402BB0C00QGGKB20AX

What should this line read? .. or would it be easier to just delete this short cut and create a new one? Also, are there any files I should be looking for on my computer to delete?

btw - I think the problem started when I signed up for a FREE membership to the FatPlay.net site (trying to download a repair manual for MGB carburators...) any experience with this site?

Hi JoeB1st, good sleuthing: everything after firefox.exe" should be deleted.

If it comes back, then some other software needs to be removed from your system, either from the Windows Control Panel or using anti-malware/anti-adware tools such as the ones listed in this article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
