Firefox doesn't work

more options

When opening Firefox it doesn't bring up my home page. It says new tab. When I click on website from toolbar nothing happens. No error message comes up. When I type in website , again nothing happens and no error message. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled firefox and problem still remains. I'm sending this via Explorer on the same computer that Firefox has stopped working on. When I click on options two dots appear to the left of new tab and blink. Nothing loads and there are no error messages. What else can I do?

Hi Dallmann, that's very mysterious. Usually you would at least expect some kind of error message.

Does anything in this article help: Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can?

I haven’t been able to find any solutions through Mozilla. I agree with not seeing any error messages. It seems like I don’t have the full browser. Ive been using Firefox for years and have never seen this problem.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I was in safe mode earlier. Not sure how I got there. Anyways, problem still occurred.

There was an update that occurred about the same time. Which leads me to believe that there was some sort of error in it. The unistall/install should have fixed it. Also tried to install previous version but it couldn't find one.

Could you try a new profile test?

First, make a temporary change to your Firefox shortcut. For example:

  • right-click a Firefox desktop shortcut and click Properties
  • right-click a pinned Firefox icon on the Taskbar, right-click Mozilla Firefox, then click Properties

If the Shortcut tab isn't selected, go ahead and click that.

Windows usually will select the Target. At the end, type a space and then -P to end up with one of these:

  • "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P
  • "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P

When you use the shortcut, Firefox should display a small dialog listing your existing profile(s). Do not delete anything!!

Click the Create Profile button, click Next, choose a name like Dec2018 and click Finish. (Do not use Choose Folder.) Then when you see the list of profiles highlight Dec2018 and start Firefox in that profile.

Does it work?
