SMTP fails with "Administrative prohibition..." Evolution and Apple mail works. I have to login as "username@domain.com" to fatcow and @ char cause problem"
My ISP is FatCow. They require username@domain.com as a username with a password to log in their mail server. It uses port 587 on smtp.fatcow.com, no encryption, very simple. I have Evolution 3.2.2. on Ubuntu 11.10 and Apple Mail on iMac27, both configured manually. Both mail clients work.
The latest available Thunderbird (only add-on is ImportExportTools 3.2.1) is installed on iMac under Yosemite OS. It receives e-mails but on attempt to send any email, including to my own domain, the following happens:
Thunderbird connects successfully to smtp.fatcow.com and then: "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Administrative prohibition. Please check the message recipient yehor_novikov@yahoo.com and try again."
Please note that If I intentionally set a wrong password then the message says "Cannot authenticate...". If I set a wrong port then "Cannot connect..." message appears. I believe the configuration is correct and there are no problems with smtp.fatcow.com
I suspect that Thunderbird simply cannot tolerate @ symbol in my required username when an e-mail is sent.
Any suggestions?

well I an every Google user has an @ in our user name. So I think that assumption is barking up the wrong tree.

Fatcow is not listed in any I can find, but as they are a domain hosting company, what is the actual email domain? ie the domain in your email address.
The domain is reachdevices.com.
Again, Evolution and Apple Mail works well with this

The most worrying is that it appear to be an open relay.

I have successfully send an email to the yahoo address you mention. I assume it is yours as the names match. So harking back to an old Yahoo problem. Right click the account in the folder list. Select settings and make sure there is no Reply-to-address set.
I recall Yahoo having some sort of moronic anti SPAM rule about it. I thought they pulled it as it was a nightmare, but perhaps not.
Sorry, I don't seem to have "Reply-to-address" in account settings. This is iMac, something is different about menu. Could you please elaborate on this?
I have got your message on yahoo. But it is NOT about yahoo or some anti spam settings. I have several accounts on reachdevices.com. I cannot even send an e-mail from one account to another.
Yes, fatcow does have some complicated structure. However, this was not a problem for any other POP3/SMTP mail clients I used for 5 years for very same account.
I am getting more and more confused about the whole thing. Does Thunderbird check the sender (me) and the recipient every time it releases an e-mail-to-be-sent to fatcow mail server against some lists?

No Thunderbird does not check lists. But yahoo certainly do. What fat cow does I have no idea. The fact their mail server is reported as an open relay would indicate that they are a very poor place to host email as SPAMMER just love open relays to distribute their warez.

Perhaps your using the menu on the toolbar instead of the main menu bar
This will be all about spam settings or incorrect account setting.
