My email was comprimised and I was told to change my password; also it said it is helpful to also use a master password. I think someone is reading my email and I want to change my password again but have been unable to accomplish this.

I have canceled my master password...all good. I am now trying to reset my personal email password through through my options tool bar; deleting it on my "saved passwords" has not worked because it then gives me no option to create a new password. I believe I am an "end user"; could this have something to do with this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks mecqbt

Thunderbird simply remembers the passwords you give it. Resetting and changing will have to be done through the web site of the account provider, either your ISP or say Google or Yahoo. Depending on who provides the account.

Stop looking -- there simply isn't a place to enter a new password in the Thunderbird application. Instead, Thunderbird will prompt you for a new password when it discovers that one is required.

When you review your Thunderbird Account Settings (Tools->Account Settings) you will NOT find a typical "Password" field to fill in. If you wish, you can view your stored passwords by selecting Tools->Options->Security->Passwords->Saved Passwords->Show Passwords.

Thunderbird will automatically prompt you for your new password once it tries to authenticate with your mail server and it discovers that your password has changed. The easiest way to trigger this process is to send yourself a quick test email. Thunderbird will try to send the email, it will fail, then it will finally ask you for your new password. You will see a pop up dialog "Login Failed" with an "Enter New Password" button. Click that button, enter your new password then click OK. Mystery solved.
