Thunderbird keeps giving me messages that I should compact the inbox. The "saved value" value keeps growing over time. Despite selecting "compact folder", the size of the inbox does not change.

My inbox is at 1.3 Gigs. Compaction should save about 700 Mb.

I've seen the temporary file popup in the directory during compaction, however the inbox file is not changing size.

Suggestions?

Hello,

With the new Supernova version 115.4.2, something in my address book no longer works as before.

“Display name instead of name from header”

is very important to me because it contains important information about the sender. Unfortunately it is no longer displayed in the email overview, even though I have checked all the boxes correctly.

What can I do about that?

You can see in the email that only the address is displayed, but not the display name.

Somebody thought that it is a GREAT idea to make drag-n-drop cursor a GIANT rectanglular thumbnail of the emails being dragged.

No, this is a horrible idea because that thumbnail covers the target of the drag-and-drop.

Either REVERT this IMMEDIATELY or let us know how to disable and revert to the simple drag-n-drop mouse cursor that does not obstruct the target of the drag.

And in the future AVOID any GUI changes that are not ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. With these poorly thought through, extremely annoying changes you are only causing damage and aggravation.

New versions of Thunderbird has a default layout with organize by conversation selected. I prefer not to use such view and uncheck the tick so all messages are shown in a list. On the main screen it works just fine but when I use "show in a conversation" command on a message it opens in a new window where view layout is default again. I can switch to list view, but whenever I open this or any other conversation it opens with a default view again.

Can anyone provide any help or insight as to why Thunderbird is sooooo determined to show me all of my 10 year old emails first? I have followed the documentation to change the order of emails shown but its still puts emails from 2013 right there at the top. Additionally, can anyone provide any insight as to why, and I do mean WHY, folks who are sharp enough to code an email client for commercial release are simultaneously so dull that they don't realize that setting the out of the box default sort settings of that email client to show oldest emails first is a misguided choice at best.

I am currently trying to set up extra SMTP servers for additional identities in my e-mail account. I would like to use the Amazon service for this.

However, as soon as I try to send an email with the data provided by AWS, I get an error message:

"Sending of the message failed. The Outgoing server (SMTP) <ses-smtp-server-url> does not support the selected authentication method. Please change the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing Server (SMTP)'."

Changing the "Authentication method" did not work either. If I enter the same data in gmail as "Send mail as" (the equivalent to the extra identity of Thunderbird), the connection in the GUI of gmail works without any problems and I can send e-mails via it. So it can't be the data or the configuration of the SES.

I am afraid that Thunderbird does not yet support the newer protocols that SES requires. Does anyone here have any ideas?

I am setting up a new Windows 11 Computer and am trying to install Thunderbird. I have downloaded TB (Thunderbird Setup 115.10.2) to my Download Folder. I double click on that file to run the Setup program, complete the user account information and TB and select Continue. TB completes the search and displays the correct account (att.net) connection information, SMP, POP3, Ports, etc. I select DONE and the Checking Password box displays. It runs for a few minutes and an Error message displays: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, user name or password." If I select Configure Manually, a window displays showing the correct configuration information (I have checked it four times). I will note that "Normal Password" has been selected for Authentication Method in case that is important. I have tried this method several times and get the same Error message. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have attached a screenshot of the configuration window. Note: My account is with att.net but I am still using my old pacbell.net account that was merged with ATT many years ago.

Hello, I hope somebody can help me in this case: I’m using four accounts for the family. Three accounts are working as usual, but one account is affected by an issue since a couple of days, after I have sent out an e-mail with the following options: - Request Receipt confirmation (MDN) - Request Delivery confirmationDSN - Save copy to Inbox The situation now is: 1. When opening a new incoming message by double-klick this one will be opened in a new window prepared already as „Answer“. That means: o In the right upper corner the buttons „Answer“, „Forward“, Archive“,… are missing. o In the left upper corner the button „send“ is already available. o The field for the target address is already filled. 2. Normally the following message should occure: ”To save your private sphaere Thunderbird has blocked external contens”, together with the option to show the external contens. But now instead: No such message, no such option available. 3. Following message instead: o No Identity has been found matching the e-mail address from the „From“-field. …… 4. The address field is already filled by address of the sender 5. URL’s sent by the sender are not working. 6. Following actions already done, without success: o Inbox (of affected account)/Properties/Repair: summary file new created o Upgrade to TB 115.4.2 o Troubleshooting- Mode performed o Start cache deleted (Help/Information for troubleshooting)

When I compose an email, the text is minute. Variable width, medium setting.

I have followed every step I can find to change font size, change density, change zoom, change config and nothing seems to work. The composition font size is so tiny I can barely read it. The attached image shows what I am talking about.

Everything changed a couple of updates ago. Until then all was normal. I have used Thunderbird for many years but this could be fatal for me if not fixable.

Thunderbird Version 115.4.2 (64-bit); W11.

I just installed Thunderbird 115 on Linux. When a message arrives and I open it, when I close the message, Thunderbird closes. That means of course that I have to reopen the program. There must be some way to fix this. I haven't figured out all the problems yet, but if I can just get an answer to this one, I'll have enough confidence to figure out what else is wrong with the program.

Just installed Windows 11.

Now, none of my email accounts (all Gmail) are showing up in any of the folders. I have deleted the 'global-message-do.SQLite' and *.msf' files and restarted, still to no avail.

Not that I expected much, but a reinstall of Thunderbird, didnt help either. I dont think removing the accounts and reconnecting will do anything either. I can see the emails downloading again, and new emails are coming in, but I can not see the new or old emails.

Any ideas?

Two days ago T-bird offered an update and this error message popped up.

Thunderbird Error: Platform version "115.3.1" is not compatible with minVersion >= 115.4.0

I found instructions to download and reinstall T-bird. When I did that there was a question about okaying a certificate with a warning. I chose not to do that because it sounded like it wasn't safe. T-bird wouldn't open and the same error message came up again.

How can I get T-bird to work and save my email??? Will Windows 10 System Restore take me back to when T-bird worked??? Help!!
