Cox.com has decided to no longer have their own email server and switched their accounts to yahoo. I can read my email directly on Yahoo, but can't get their imap to work. I changed the imap and smtp settings to yahoo. Also, the email login has changed and I changed that in Thunderbird. With Cox, the login was just "username" and now it is "username@cox.net". When I made these changes in the account settings, my email account has disappeared from the inbox, but it is still in account settings. I am using a unified inbox with several accounts.

Cox will not help me with this, and I have been on hold with yahoo for an hour with no response. I have been messing with this for two days so I hope you can help me.

I finally thought that I would try the Saved Search Folder option. But once I saved a search in a folder and tried to use it, it seems that it doesn't work the way I thought it would.

I have a search that I do often where I have a bunch of electronic receipts from supermarkets and I search my email folders for: Subject: The subject line identifying the receipts Body: The name of the item that I want to find in the receipts reflecting the purchase of that item. One example is Miracle Whip. I can then not only find out how often I purchased the item but how much the price changed over time.

I saved the search figuring that I could pull it up and simply change the name of the item (let's say from Miracle Whip to Cheerios) without having to recreate the search from scratch. But when I clicked on the search folder, it looks like all it does is allow me to search again for Miracle Whip. So it looks like I would have to save a search for every item (dozens of them) that I buy regularly. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it works?

Hi I have read many articles about Gmail accounts under Thunderbird and kind of understand how they use a single file, with labels, instead of the standard folders used by many email services. I do not want to see the Gmail section on my TB display. I had read that just 'unsubscribe' the section showing 'Gmail' and all its contents. I put my pointer on the account and look for 'unsubscribe' but it shows only 'subscribe' as a choice.

Why is Gmail section showing up? Why do I not see 'unsubscribe'? I am using TB 91.9.0 (64-bit). I have several accounts for which this is true. I use a Linux distribution (Fedora 34) which is EOL but upgrading should not be an issue for this generic issue. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated ... Robert

Hello, I have a problem with finding the "Thread with Unread" option in the newest version of Thunderbird 115. In TB version 91 it was in Options > Threads > Thread with Unread and now it is gone. I was looking for a solution in the Google or on the TB forum, but I couldn't find it by phrase. Alternatively, is there newer option to configure the email view so that I can see only threads with at least one unread message? Best regards

I am looking for a simple one-click or keyboard shortcut way of running all filters on the selected message.

I've tried different filter extensions and had no luck.

So I have installed 'tbkeys' extension so I can create my own shortcuts. Now I just need to know the name of the function that is called from "Tools">"Run Filters on Message".

It will be something like "MsgApplyFilters" (that one doesn't work).

Thanks

Ed

I am afraid that I am not at all happy with the new version of Thunderbird. It may be that as I get used to it I will find some of the new features helpful, but right now I am more concerned about what was taken away that was helpful:

   a) I keep getting 'not responding' -- especially when trying to set my theme 'yet again (and again, and again)!!!! I am mostly shut-in due to illness and the themes make a difference emotionally compared to a stark 'black and white'. Furthermore, what is the point of having TB themes when they don't hold -- I often have to re-set mine several times a day
   b) tabs are now hidden -- I need to colour-code messages so I know which I need to get back to soon or can wait. Having them hidden under that new right arrow makes extra steps to do so
   c) the row of custom colours no longer hold: what is the point of being able set a row of custom colour if they don't hold!!! I used different colours to indicate different responses in a thread -- thereby having an immediate way to see the order of responses.
   d) I need layers of sub-folders -- often to add a new name to a group I belong to, or a new year. I have been asking again and again over several years for the ability to create a new sub-folder WHILE one is moving an email from the inbox to a folder or sub-folder. Having to 'go' to the folder first, make a new sub-subfolder, return to the inbox, and then move the email is an unnecessary waste of time.
   e) 'a picture says a thousand words' -- emojs are so useful in this way, especially when one is tired or can't think of the right words to say. This feature was taken away years ago, and I wish that TB would bring it back. The minimal 'yellow faces' are minimal useful.
I am not techy enough to really understand what you have written below - what is a 'message context menu' and 'mock-ups'. However, it seems to me that the TB functons (at least the ones that I need) are getting less and less useful and increasing 'cognitive burden'.
Sorry to be so negative, but I do wonder who TB is trying to please/appease -- it is not this user.
   Blessings

I just recently downloaded Thunderbird after using Mac Mail for years. Mail suddenly refused to display messages and no one on the Apple forum could figure out why. So I was advised to download Thunderbird. So far, I'm not a fan. Here are my issues: 1. Unread messages in the Inbox are in bold. But the bold is so close to the normal font that I can't tell them apart. Is there another, better way to mark unread messages? A tick/check mark? A coloured background? 2. Messages are automatically organised into conversations. But when the latest message comes in, the inbox message doesn't go bold. So there is no way of knowing where to find it. I have to go through all messages that have a conversation (more than one message in the inbox) and find one where the latest message is in bold at the bottom. It's a royal pain. I see the number next to the account on the left, but nothing is in bold on the right. Grrr. 3. The conversations are the wrong way up. I want the most recent message at the top, not the bottom. I would actually prefer not to have them in conversations at all, just the most recent message, but I realise that is probably asking too much. 4. There is no number next to the Thunderbird icon on my desktop when I get a message. I used to appreciate this in Mail. It told me if it was worth going to my inbox. With Thunderbird I have to open the program to find out. Ok, that's enough for now. I'd better not get started on the shortcomings of the search function, or how to bring the unread messages to the top of the inbox list... There are just too many issues to address is one posting. Thanks for any help you can give.
