I use a lot of excel files with ETM and when I pull a report, I need it to open with excel in a CSV file. That open no longer appears in the setting list.

When I try to open the report, it just takes me to a folder to download the report and then I have to manually open it with excel.

Can that please be fixed. It was working fine and then I noticed my firefox was updated last night, and this morning I can no longer use it correctly.

Dear Volunteer :-) I have the latest Firefox version 98.0 and Windows 10. After every download from any website the complete download list pops up below the download symbol everytime. This can be quite annoying when I'm downloading many small things, like pics. Can I deactivate this function? Thanks in advance for your help! :-)

When I go to download a ZIP file, it will always attempt to download the file directly rather than letting me open it with WinRAR. When I go into the browser settings I see that some other file types have options to choose how they're handled, but there's no entry for ZIP files. I've tried refreshing my Firefox install and yet the issue still persists.

I used to have this option before I reinstalled Windows a while back (where I kept my files but not programs). I don't know for sure that that's what caused this to start, but the timing would line up.

When I click on a WAV file or try to open an Excel attachment, I only get the download window. I went to settings and tried to change the default program to open them, but I don't have WAV or Excel in my list and when I try to search for it, nothing comes up. What am I doing wrong? It was all fine before the update from Tuesday, 3/8/22. After that update I had to go in and change all the programs back to the ones I had set up for pdfs, word docs, mail, jpegs, etc, so it clearly reset everything back to Firefox defaults, but why are those file types missing from my list and not coming up in the search window so that I can assign a program to open them?

Before the new update whenever I downloaded a file it would ask where to save the file to every time, now it just asks once then automatically saves any new files I download to the same folder as the previous ones, forcing me to then go to that folder and manually move it to the correct folders. Is there any way to change it back to the right way it was done before they decided to remove our choice? My setting is set to "Always ask you where to save files", with the emphasis on "Always".

changes to file download locations in version 98

Re: Changes to how file downloads are handled in Firefox version 98: Personally I don't consider this an enhancement. Since I upgraded to v98, every file I open online, even if I'm not saving it, is saving a copy of itself onto my desktop. (To be precise, D:\OneDrive\Desktop). And I look at up to 20 files per day, so this is getting pretty annoying.

My regular downloads directory still exists, and that should be where temporary copies of files are being stored prior to my closing or saving them (right?). But it's empty.

Note that under Settings > General > Downloads, the default is set to Always Ask rather than one specific directory. However I believe that is for the "permanent" version of the files, not the temporary version.

How do I get Firefox to revert back to the pre-98 defaults for the temporary versions of files? I was hoping this change was a mistake but I see that 98.01 did not fix it and from the article referenced above, it looks like changes were made deliberately. And the desktop is clearly not a place where temporary files should be being placed.

Thanks.

I want to have a default download location with the ability to select an alternate location on any download, not to have the last download location remembered as the current save to location.

I have a primary folder to which I want to have the majority of my downloads go to, but on some occasions, I want a download to go to some other location. The current settings "Save files to" and "Always ask you where to save files" do not enable this capability.

Others have asked for this ability too.

I just switched to Windows 11 and Firefox have a strange behaviour. Maybe also just firefox updates the behaviour like removing back action when clicking backspace some time ago. When a download of a PDF starts it is configured that it will ask me what to do. So in general I use open with Adobe PDF Viewer. This also works. But the file is anyway in my Download-Folder. I was used that it will be saved in the temp folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp and then also deleted after a while. If I want a file saved for a longer time I save it explicitly to a location I want to have it.

Any idea what is wrong in the Windows 11 or Firefox (currently 98.0.1)

Thanks a lot!

The behavior of FireFox saving PDF files has changed. I am using WIN10, FireFox 98.0.1 and have it setup to use windows default application and always ask where to save for PDFs.

BEFORE the problem: The PDF opens in Acrobat Pro IX. After clicking save I would be asked, where to save. I select the location to save the PDF. Then after this, subsequent PDFs downloaded would be saved to the last saved location. This process would repeat for a new website PDF load and save. This is the behavior I want now.

NOW with the problem: The PDF opens in Acrobat Pro IX. 1. Immediately, after a reboot, the save icon on Adobe is grayed out. I select save as and point to the desired directory. 2. For any subsequent PDF opened, the Adobe save icon is available. Files are saved to the desktop.

Please note I believe I once did get a popup asking where to save and I know I selected desktop. Since that selection I am no longer asked where to save.

Please note I have looked and tried some of the suggestions at: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-download-or-save-files#w_choose-a-different-download-folder

but some of this advice needs to be updated for the new FireFox version--ex no JSON file is found at the file location covered in the advice.

I believe this issue started after the last FireFox update. Please help me restore behavior listed above under “BEFORE the problem”. Thanks.

I don't want the pdf to save to disk without my will when I open a pdf file from any website. Fire Fox saves the file first, then opens it for reading. How to change it? I want to read the pdf first and then decide what to do with it. This works similarly in Edge. FF is my main browser, I wouldn't want to change that, but I have too much garbage on my disk. every pdf is saved first, completely unnecessary.

Hey Mozilla!

I'm a big fan of your product, and I use it on my Windows 10x64 PC and my Note10+ Android 12 smartphone.

Since your last update, there is a problem (on the PC mozillla browser): when a click a link to download a file, automaticly is open a new window that OPEN the file. Before the last update, when I was click-ing the link, I remember that the browser was open a small window and promt me to OPEN or to SAVE the file. Now, that function is missing. (I have checked different web sites, including whatsapp for desktop, the problem is persisting).

I haven't changed any settings, the box is checked for "Always ask you where to save files".

Thank you!

Best regards, Bogdan

I want to just open a PDF attachment and not have it download. FIrefox would contstantly reset a setting to where it saved it and I would change it back to open with Adobe. Now I just noticed even though the settings have not changed it is saving the attachment in addition to opening it. It is very annoying. I do not want to save the attachment, I just want to view it. I do not see any other setting to check or change.

Does anyone else have an issue opening documents? All of a sudden Firefox no longer allows me to open certain files. When I go to the settings, the only applications that I have options for are PDF, AV1F, XML, SVG and WebP Image. I seem to have lost the ability to selection "open", "save" or "always ask" for all other documents such as Word, Excel, etc. Screenshot included.

This seems to have happened out of nowhere.
