The first time I load firefox after re/starting my computer it takes so long to load I get tired of waiting. Can anyone tell me how to speed it up?

Firefox loads as quickly as everything else if I have already opened it at some stage during the session. But the first time I load it, it takes ages. It doesn't matter if I try to load Firefox immediately after booting my computer or whether I try to load it hours after booting my computer. The first load in every session can take up to a minute. It is not my Internet connection as I am able to do other things while waiting for it to load if I don't have time to wait. The only thing I have found that seems to hurry it up is to load it 'twice' ie click the icon, wait a second, and then click the icon again. This means that 2 Firefox windows open but it seems to speed up the loading time. I have played with, and greatly reduced, my add ons and plug ins with no improvement.
