i want to have my bookmarks on the left hand pane of the desktop by default when i log into firefox, as before. the solution suggested in firefox help page "What happened to the Bookmarks Toolbar?", i.e. check 'bookmarks toolbar' on the view-toolbars dropdown menu, does not work.

can you suggest another solution?

i'm running firefox 4.0b11 on a macbookpro with os10.6.6

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

The Bookmarks Toolbar has nothing to do with the Bookmarks Sidebar (on the left side of the browser window). {Ctrl + B} opens /closes the Bookmarks Sidebar. If you close Firefox with the Bookmarks Sidebar open, it should be open when you launch Firefox the next time. If it doesn't work like that the localstore.rdf file in your Profile folder is probably corrupt.

thanks! i had already realized that my question confused toolbar and sidebar, and followed advice on another firefox support page to go to the help-restart,etc menu, which seems to have solved this, at least for me - i see that many others are having problems with the new beta, but that's what betas are for, i suppose.

impressed with the speed and usefulness of your reply - thanks again.
