problem with message pane

I am running with Ubuntu 20.04.3 and thunderbird 91.7.0 (64 bit)

My problem is that the message pane shrinks everything inside of it and NOT just the fonts. Most of the complaints are about the fonts but no fixes for my problem has been address (lots of stuff on the fonts alone). This just happened so its either an update thing or I cleverly screwed everything up. I also think I saw, at one time, a resolution setting which was approximately twice what my resolution is (1920x1080).

I have attached a single picture of a thunderbird message in thunderbird. The message contents should be about 3 times what you see.

I have no idea what has happened and have tried everything I could find (probably screwed things up worse)
