Just installed Mozilla VPN on MacBook Pro (M1 chip) and it froze, won't budge or uninstall ("the wheel" is not there), can't access internet on Firefox or other browser. What do I do to remove it and all its files so I can use Firefox, Safari, Google, or any other browser again?

Hello Olivier,

Please follow these steps to uninstall Mozilla VPN on your MacBook:

1. Locate the Mozilla VPN in the Finder. Most apps are in your Applications folder, which you can open by clicking Applications in the sidebar of any Finder window. Or use Spotlight to find the app, then press and hold the Command (⌘) key while double-clicking the app in Spotlight.

2. Drag the app to the Trash, or select the app and choose File > Move to Trash.

3. If you're asked for a user name and password, enter the name and password of an administrator account on your Mac. This is probably the name and password you use to log in to your Mac.

4. To delete the app, choose Finder > Empty Trash.

After you delete, visit http://vpn.mozilla.org/ download and install Mozilla VPN.

Let us know how it goes.

Mozilla VPN is now gone. But Firefox, Safari, and email accounts are still frozen, which happened when I installed Mozilla VPN. I can't open any web pages. I can't send or receive emails on my 3-4 months old computer. I am using my older, backup computer to reply to you right now.

Hey there,

I'd suggest trying some troubleshooting steps on your macOS device, you can use this link https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/if-an-app-freezes-or-quits-unexpectedly-mchlp2579/mac or search up any suggestions from the Apple forums.

Hope this helps.

Hello!

We're sorry for the inconvenience. There is an ongoing issue on the VPN for macOS that stems from the system overwriting their previously set DNS settings. If the VPN process crashes, it doesn’t clean out these DNS entries, and since those DNS are only accessible via the VPN, it effectively breaks all non-VPN networking.

To fix this, go ahead and uninstall the VPN from your computer, then go to System preferences > Network > Wi-fi (make sure to remove the lock in order to be able to make changes) > Advanced > DNS, and if DNS server 10.64.0.1 is showing remove it from the list, as well as fc00:bbbb:bbbb:bb01::1. That should fix your internet connection, then try reinstalling the VPN again and it should work normally.

Let me know if that helps.

I contacted Apple Support. I had already removed Mozilla VPN from my Apps. They had me go into Network and delete my WiFi, restart the computer, then reinstall the Wifi. That worked.

The two DNS servers you mentioned were not present. The only one is 192.168.1.1

Not sure what will happen when I try to install Mozilla VPN the next time. Any suggestions?

I can verify that this works correctly on my iMac M1, macOS 12.0.1.
