Unwanted verification process to sign-into gmail account on my iMac Laptop

For the past week, my gmail account is no longer accessible on my iMac Laptop unless I go through a verification process on my iPhone. The reason given is that the device [the laptop] is not recognized. This is not the "Two-Step" verification process and it does not provide an opt-out option. I have been using Gmail on this laptop for five years. Thank you. Deborah Halpern
