In Firefox Preview for Android, when visiting some sites (like NYtimes.com), a media notification will appear showing something is playing, even though nothing really is, which causes other media (for example, podcast apps) to stop playing. See screenshot. This also occurs in regular Firefox on Android.

Hi kcsantiago,

It looks like this is a bug that we need to file. I believe it's something to do with the way Firefox Preview handles websites playing audio. Are there any other websites that this is occurring with, or is it only limited to nytimes.com? The issue is prevalent with other apps (like playing music in spotify) too, so if you can specify what other websites this occurs with, it will help our team to find what is causing the interruption.

I'm sorry - NYTimes.com is the only one I recall because I visit that site regularly.

Update: This site has embedded video and caused an issue: https://playerswiki.com/julio-urias

This keeps happening for me on a few sites, even when I can't see any media on the page, and no audio plays. Most common on reddit.com

[Android 9 | Firefox Preview v5.1.1 (Build 21571852)] Also experiencing this in Reddit. Will monitor more closely as I recall this behaviour on other sites, but have no precise example now.

When closing a tab, especially when the browser pop-up notification asks if I wish to UNDO the activity, seems to be the only way to have the media PAUSE tab icon actioned. If I perform outside of that moment nothing seems to happen.

Notable perhaps: beyond this PAUSE icon disappearing nothing truly seems to happens in either instance, at least in regard to the OP. Android's notifications tray shows the media still live. Go back to Firefox Preview tabs and the PAUSE icon has been reinstated.

Have searched in Bugzilla for a related bug on this issue. In case my searching skills are rusty, has anyone submitted a bug report? Happy to do so if not.

EDIT: discovered somewhat related issue being handled in Github.
