How can I restore an hours worth of writing I did in browser when it crashed!?
Only one old sessionstore.bak file - not relevant - but some other files made at the time of the crash including sessionCheckpoints.json
Is my text saved anywhere?

Was this within the browser itself, a web page, another application?
There are some word type programs that have an auto-save function every now and then.
In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.
Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.
I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.
Hi thanks - this is the crash:
bp-0902f288-8255-4fe0-8039-3efce2150104 04/01/2015 02:52
it goes to here:
https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/0902f288-8255-4fe0-8039-3efce2150104
it was in the letters page of the guardian online
If you do not have a backup of the sessionstore.js file (also check the Time Machine) then you writing is lost.
For future prevention you can look at this extension:
- Lazarus: Form Recovery: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/lazarus-form-recovery/
These programs were flagged in your crash reports;

Over the last few months, MAC has been going crazy trying to fix this.
In order to recover the data you would need a hex reader and third party software. I am sorry about the lost data.
If you install Lazarus and go to the page where it crashed, does the recovery show up?
