I got a new computer running windows 11.

I installed Firefox as my default browser. I then noticed the address bar performing search which is annoying as hell and actually and interferes with productivity as I use search. Basically, I have to redo searches after the address bar. It is problematic. The one off search from address bar according to last survey only 26% of users like it. rest want it gone.

As for me, I have tried the solution of Keyword set to false and the browser url oneoff also set to false.

I saw another suggested item of turn off keyword search. However, that item does not have an off button or switch within Windows 11. Just check marks of the suggested keywords that developers installed into the field when downloaded. I unchecked all the items as that was the only change I could do. So, there is no keyword selected. I closed all browser windows and restarted Firefox.

The address bar search still occurs. This make the previous question and answer solution invalid as of August 12, 2022.

I consider this a BUG and a major development of Firefox browser failure. When I search, I am looking for generally wide range of results and alternative search options are better than specific one off search. Best example; What is difference between Clementines and Mandarins? As a one off search you get one set of results. When you use the proper search box of a search engine, you get totally different results that are more useful and less time consuming to know the full range of answers, history, physical traits as well as other items not considered in the address bar search. In the search engine box, you do get the address bar search items. However, they always are 6 to 20 down the list of preferred or most useful. However, the address bar search results do not have all the top 5 items from the search engine search. It is a matter of how the address bar does the search that is at issue. For whatever reason, the results are not as good as direct input. You will have to determine through investigation why that is. However, that is a year's worth of investigation if anyone would do it. In the mean time, this address bar search needs a simple button that does all the changes necessary to make it stop!

Additionally, I find multiple related search options that are given by search engines extremely helpful when looking for related type of searches. This is something that the address bar search can not do and was never designed or allowed to do. Thus, it causes loss of productivity.

As such and because it does cause loss of productivity, it is a BUG and by law, Mozilla must remove items or provide easy solution to stop productivity failure.

The current solution does not work. That means Mozilla must provide an update immediately to make this feature go away for those who find it annoying, useless or interference with productivity!

Why on earth would you want the history pane to automatically scroll to the very top after clicking on a result??

And no, I am not opening links in a private window.

This is a stupid design flaw that no other browser has, FIX IT MOZILLA.

Under Windows 10, the Windows taskbar showed Firefox open windows. After migrating to Windows 11, the Windows taskbar shows all tabs opened, without grouping them by window.

I read this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1222298

but the suggested fix isn't shown in about:preferences

Is this a Windows 11 thing, or am I missing a Firefox solution?

I turned off Firefox updates because I'm sick and tired of having to download a new version at least once a week. So now I face a different problem. Every time I turn on Firefox I'm greeted by this annoying, unwanted pop-up spam message:

https://i.imgur.com/qFtXPXr.jpg (also see: attached image)

I want to disable this. I do not want to update, and I do not want to be reminded to update. Please don't waste both your and my time by replying "but you have to update". No I don't. I have nothing sensitive on this PC so even if I got infected by a virus or whatever because it's not the newest version, nothing bad will happen to me. At least nothing I consider as bad as having to update every single week. If there is no solution possible, I will simply stop using Firefox and use a different web browser instead. Thanks.

Firefox 103 screws with website zooming if you use the "Make text bigger" accessibility setting in Windows. 150% for example now zooms in a lot more with the accessibility setting in Windows set to 120%.

How do I undo this change so that 150% is 150% and not bigger than 150%? I had all my frequented websites set up how I liked it and now this comes along and messes it all up >:V at the moment it seems like 120% Firefox + 120% Accessibility is similar to what 150% in Firefox was like but it's not exactly the same. I've now gotta go futz with zoom levels for each web page I frequent again to find what looks most comfortable for each one.

Also this change greatly modifies consistency when it comes to the granularity of zooming. For example, what is 100% zoom when Accessibility is set to 120% so that I can avoid filtered scaling being applied to pictures? Why is the in-browser percentage indication not accurate with the level of zooming actually being applied?

The zoom level I choose is no longer the zoom level applied, there is now a multiplier in effect. So 50% isn't 50% anymore, 60% isn't 60% anymore, 70% isn't 70% anymore, 80% isn't 80% anymore, 90% isn't 90% anymore, 100% isn't 100% anymore, 110% isn't 110% anymore, 120% isn't 120% anymore, 130% isn't 130% anymore, 140% isn't 140% anymore etc.

A website that looked good at 133% can no longer be viewed at 133% if the Accessibility setting isn't also 133%.

Not a fan of whoever decided to implement this seemingly without a way to turn it off.

Hello,

I want to permanently remove these notifications by whatever means necessary.

This is the same issue that was[[ previously discussed here.|https://support.mozilla.org/no/questions/1237229]] previously discussed here. However, the chosen solution is only a temporary workaround, I am only interested in a permanent fix. I have dom.webnotifications.enabled set to false yet these notifications still appear. Is it possible to disable them using a policies.json file?

Ads and other annoyances that distract me from being able to browse the web in peace are a pet peeve of mine. Take for instance this example amazon prime promotion that loads in its own web page that cannot be blocked by normal means. I do not wish to use amazon prime and don't want to be asked every time I checkout in order to complete a purchase. To make matters worse, the options are deceptively colored much like how bloatware developers word their installation wizards. I want to be able to bypass this page entirely and get redirected to the "no thanks" option every time this page loads. Is this something that can be done so I can shop online without being nagged for unwanted services?

Consequent to recent Firefox upgrade 103 leading consequent distortion of UI - mostly rectified now- bookmarks disappeared during my early attempts to sort this out [via roll back]. Replaced bookmarks folder is left justified on screen - previously it was to the right. It can be copied and pasted but always jumps back to LHS. I haven't been able to drag n drop or otherwise move this tab elsewhere - internal organisation menu doesn't seem to deal with this subject. A small thing, but Why is it so?

Why did you choose to waste desktop space with so much white space between Bookmarks? I use Firefox because the bookmarks can be arranged on the left pane and I can quickly access hundreds of frequently visited web sites without having to use the scroll bar.

I have been designing user interfaces for over 25 years and cannot understand the reason for this. It is not any easier to read and much less productive and more time consuming. To be as productive as I was with the older versions, I need twice as much vertical space. The Bookmark setup was the biggest advantage to Firefox and why we were using it.

I am also extremely disappointed that you did away with the colors for folders. The empty white outline makes it more difficult to read. If the Folders were colored and the white space was eliminated, we could fit twice as many bookmarks and with much improved readability.

It is not cool or fancy or trendy - it is much worse than the older interface.

I have recently set Outlook Mail to send desktop notifications when email is received. This works when the setting is on. However I have noticed twice in 3 days the setting has been turned off- but not by me! This is unacceptable. I would be grateful if you can advise me of anything I can do to ensure that when I change a setting/preference in FF that it stays changed until I select a different setting myself. In the case of email it is important as may miss something important. Thank you,

Every time I have to type in a multi line field I have to select my preferred spell check dictionary. Even after changing the selection in another tab in this current run of Firefox I have had to change the spell check dictionary in this tab again.

I have two spell check dictionaries loaded English (Australia) and English (United States). How do I get Firefox to only use English (Australia) and never to use English (United States) ever again?

I am using Linux 22.04 and the snap installed version of Firefox 103.0.2. My OS locale is set to en_AU.

Problem: Scrolling in firefox is feeling weird: instead of smooth scrolling with 2 fingers (like on smartphone with 1 finger) firefox scrolls only by steps only when I move my fingers enough to trigger scrolling. In other applications I can scroll smoothly and fully control scrolling, I can scroll exactly N pixels if I want. In firefox I can only move by N pixels per M cm fingers movement on touch pad.

It's feeling as indirect input. I can feel same feeling on Windows with simple mouse. Firefox scrolls slower than Opera.

How to reproduce and find difference with other applications:

  1. Download Firefox and another application with direct input (Opera or Telegram for example)
  2. Scroll Firefox
  3. Scroll another application

I set the 'open link in new tab' and FF will not do it. It opens the link in the same window. Very familiar with PCs, even built some with MFM drives. Have tried the usual of update, restart program, restart computer, etc.

I have worked on it for months, from time to time.

Also, I would like to point out that the Great Mozilla Firefox, seems to be allowing too much freedom (or a lowering of standards) in updates of the software.

If you use Full Screen a lot you'll notice that when your mouse cursor is near the top of the screen it often activates the appearance of the Address and Menu bars and whatever other toolbars you have working. The whole screen suddenly jolts down. Then up as soon as the cursor moves down. I cannot imagine the mindset of the designer that implemented it; must have been someone poor on the keyboard that uses the mouse as much as possible. Alt+D activates the toolbar! We don't need any mouse cursor to display it. Especially as we need to type anyway to use the Address Bar. I searched Add-Ons but couldn't find anything. Any ideas of how to stop the cursor from activating the toolbars? Anything in about:config maybe? Anything I can edit in the files? Please! Let's get some sanity back to Firefox Full Screen.
