The setting for opening links in a new tab isn't working. I use a MacBook Pro laptop and Firefox 16.0.1. I used to do this by pressing the Cmnd+click link.

I used to press Cmnd and click a link to open it in a new tab even when the setting was to open a link in the same window, until I upgraded to 16.0.1- Now even the official setting for opening links in a new tab (Firefox settings) absolutely does not work. I even tried an Add-On: "Open Link in New Tab 0.1.2011120101" and set it to open any link in a new tab. It didn't work no matter what setting I used.

I know I can "right click" by tapping a link with two fingers, then choosing "open in new tab". That's two steps when I just want to click on a link and see it in a new tab. I can hit Ctrl while clicking a link and still have to choose "open in new tab." Annoying.
Maybe I can create my own shortcut to do this? Please help me navigate more quickly and easily.
