Global activation of alert sounds (reminder) for upcoming events possible?

more options

Hi lads,

I used TB for many years but only now started using it in office. I have a problem with the calendar function however which I have to use now. I'd like to have an audio alert and/or window pop-up forcing interaction for any event in my calendar, let's say 15 min ahead. I tend to overlook the small notification pop-ups in the bottom right corner of the screen since they also vanish automatically after a few seconds.

I can get these small bottom right corner pop-ups to appear for any event by using the global notification preferences in the Edit Calender options. However, I can not globally activate an audio alert or a window requiring interaction for upcoming events. I can just activate a reminder manually for each and every event, which is a lot of work, naturally. So, is there a way to activate a reminder (not a notification, which is the bottom right pop up I assume) globally for any event in a calendar?

Can also be done by an add-on or by manually changing source files, if anyone has suggestions in this direction.

Thanks in advance, trashmaster

Morning trashmaster, Would that work for you?

- Settings -> Calendar -> Notification -> Add new (see the screen)

This shows you an alert window and if you click on it, you can see a summary of the event. I do believe it's global!

Hi! Thanks for your answer, unfortunately these are exactly the notifications I mentioned which I tend to miss because they neither require any interaction before vanishing nor play an alarm sound. So TB distinguishes between those soft alerts called "Notifications" and the hard alerts called "Reminders", and I'd like to have reminders.

However, I spent some time today to write a python script using the icalendar package. It adds an alarm to any event in my calendar which doesn't have one activated and is called once per hour by the windows task scheduler. This was the easiest way for me since I have direct access to the calendar file. Only some trouble getting the scheduler to work with a silent python script, but it worked out in the end. :)

Still would be great if the TB calendar in the future would be extended by a global option for "hard alerts" - Reminders. I also couldn't find any add-ons aiming in that direction. I guess this has not been done yet as the alerts are part of the ical file format (VALARM) and the TB notifications are just some internal functionality. So maybe just extend this notification function by options for a window demanding dismission and/or playing a sound.

Thank you nevertheless!

Ah I need to read more carefully. Maybe you can see this addon and still write the script: https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/scriptable-notifications/?src=ss
