Dictation command in Edit menu, fn-D, is adding a 'd' to the text box in MacOS 14.2.1 Sonoma

It is supported on the edit menu in Firefox,d but if I try to use the keyboard command, function+d, it does turn on the dictation, and turn it off again, but it inserts a "d" at the site where I start the dictation. That's why there is a 'd' at the start of this explanation, and why there is one again after the firefox, above.
