(Thunderbird 60.7.0; Fedora-29, last updated 2 days ago)) A few almost-certainly-malicious messages are somehow sneaking around my filters. The text source of one such message can be viewed for a few days here: "https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/zslZwdYUkWtkOH6nwX09MQ". A screen capture of the filter that should have caught and deleted it is in the attachment. How did this message sneak past the filter? What if anything should I change in the filter? Is there anything else I should do before submitting a bug?

The source shows that From ends with firs.gov.ng>, so it might work better if your filter applies From + contains instead of 'ends with'. It would work with 'ends with' if the filter criterion was Return-Path. Click Customize in the criteria drop-down to add custom headers.

Thank-you.

That was not the problem. I think I now see what the real problem is. I have a similar problem with another e-mail address.

It seems that a given filter can only be run automatically on one folder when Thunderbird gets messages from the provider. How can I set it to automatically run filters on multiple folders when messages are fetched from the provider? In this case, I need for the filter to run automatically on "Inbox" first, and then automatically run on the the "Bulk Mail" folder.

Thank-you in advance. Bill.

You would have to create a separate filter for each folder, as you see filters are defined per folder. The folder would also have to check for new mail when getting new messages for the account (right-click a folder, Properties). But I don't see the point of having a filter delete from the Bulk/Junk/Spam folder; the folder retention policy can be adjusted in Properties to delete messages according to age or size.

ok. Thank-you.

The messages in question seem to occur just a few times a month. So it may be several days before I can say this problem is solved.

I get a lot of messages mis-categorized both ways by the provider. This mis-categorization happens daily, almost all good messages being put into the Bulk Mail folder. So I'm stuck checking the Bulk Mail folder daily. Good filtering can really help. That's why I want Bulk Mail messages from certain senders (just a few per month) automatically marked as read and then deleted, and others (several per day) automatically moved to the Inbox.

Find yourself an updated Thunderbird If not in the fedora repository then here https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/

There are a number of changes to junk filtering and IMAP junk tagging specific to yahoo in version 68 which might help you in your quest.

Thank-you, Matt. I had no idea my Thunderbird was out-of-date, let alone 8 versions out-of-date! I do a "dnf upgrade" every Thursday. Earlier today, after seeing your post, I checked the Fedora repositories, and what I have is the most current they have.

I'm pursuing this in the Fedora users list.

(replying to Matt) I upgraded my operating system to Fedora-30 today. That upgraded Thunderbird to 68.1. It will take a while to see if that solves the problems. But the upgrade introduced two new more serious problems: 1. My calendar is empty. All the appointments, etc. seem to have disappeared. 2. All my message filters seem to be gone.

Before doing the upgrade, I did back up my ".thunderbird" directory. 1. How do I restore all my calendar entries? Many of these are extremely important. 2. How do I restore all my message filters? For security/safety reasons, these are important.

thank-you for your help. Bill.
