cannot access groupon as unknown website running in background despite reinstalling firefox

A few days ago I was unable to access the Groupon link in my email in order to print out the coupon I wanted to use. I couldn't even get a password change link sent or access contact. Message from firefox informed me that the problem was a website running in the background. Did extensive search for this unknown website and reran my Intego security suite - no luck. Able to access Groupon by blackberry, chrome and safari. Today I uninstalled firefox and then downloaded it anew but the problem persists.
