When I try to open YouTube it says I have to activate it with a code but the codes do not work.

I downloaded the Firefox app on my Fire TV but when I go to open YouTube I get an activation code. I have tried to enter the code at youtube.com/activate multiple times but none of the codes work. All that happens after I hit submit is the screen fades out and stays that way. I am already signed in to YouTube on my computer and on my Fire TV app. There is no where to sign into YOuTube on the activation screen for Firefox. Thank you.

Hello again,

Can you install and try another browser? I don't know how well IE or Edge handles the hand-offs between the activation sites.

When I activated my Google account was already signed in. Can you also try signing into your google account separately and then attempt the activation again?

Hello roselovesbarbie,

Thanks for contacting Mozilla Support. I wasn't able to recreate the issue you're experiencing on a Fire TV 4k, but I have a few things for you to try.

  • Try removing the cookies from youtube and google on the computer or device you are attempting to activate with
  • Try a different computer or use a tablet or phone to access the link

If you continue to see an issue please let us know the model of Fire TV you are attempting to activate.

Cheers, Patrick

Hi Patrick, Thank you for trying to help me but I am still unsuccessful. I thought maybe it was because I was already logged into YouTube with my Fire TV app, so I logged out of that and tried but nothing. See, what is happening is when I enter youtube.com/activate on my PC or my tablet it immediately brings up a screen that asks for the activation code...there is no option to first sign on with my Google account. The message on the TV says to go to youtube.com/activate and then first log into my Google account and then enter the activation code. The problem is I am not given any screen that allows me to log into my Google account. I took a screen shot of the screen I get when I go to youtube.com/activate. We also received a new software update this morning for Firefox so my Fire TV has been updated. Again thank you for trying to help me.

Hi Patrick, I failed to tell you that the YouTube account that we use on our Fire TV is my husband's address not mine. That would be [email removed]. Because we watch YouTube all the time on our TV we used his account and all of our subscribed channels are found under his account. I do not know if that makes a difference but it just dawned on me that if you need the actual Google account I am trying to attach YouTube to my device with it would be [email removed]. Thanks! Rose

Sorry, I did not see your replay before I posted my last message. I will try to use another browser and see how that goes. I will let you know.

Hi Patrick,

Yea!! I was able to connect it after downloading Chrome. Thank you so much for helping me. I should have figured it was a problem with IE and Edge. I have IE on my PC and Edge on my tablet. Have a great day and thanks again. Rose

No problem. Please consider downloading Firefox instead of Chrome though. Glad you're up and running!

Yes, I guess I should have done that. HA! I was logged out of Google and when I logged back in the "Would you like to download Chrome" message was there so I clicked it. Thanks again for all your help.
