Help! Messages going to wrong folder!

I use Hotmail. My system is that I email to myself all the receipts I've scanned and then I move the message to my "Receipts" folder in Outlook. So I have (had!) all my scanned receipts in my Outlook receipts folder.

I'm new to Thunderbird. This morning I deleted some emails from my sent folder, including the Glenna to Glenna sent emails. Thunderbird went to all my folders and moved ALL my receipts and anything from any folder to "Deleted". OMG!! I quickly moved all the "deleted" messages to a folder called "Archive" in Hotmail. Whew! These are important messages.

Now when I do Glenna to Glenna, both messages end up in my "sent" folder. One should be in "sent" and the other should be in "inbox".

What a mess. How can I correct this? I feel I've created a nightmare. I think Thunderbird must be marking some stuff universally junk and other related emails travel to deleted.

I will need to go through 2,500 messages now in my "archive" cabinet in Outlook and refile them to their appropriate folders, once Thunderbird is not automatically doing something.

Can anyone help?

Thanks so much, Glenna (Ratfancy)

Update: I sorted out all my messages, subscribed to a free month of Office 365 to get Outlook. Then I backed up all my Hotmail to a .pst file on a flash drive. Then I went to work on cleaning up my Thunderbird account and reviewing/refiling all my messages in their proper places. So I'm good now - but I really should have backed up to .pst before going to Thunderbird. There's a learning curve!
