I can receive but not send msgs. settings are correct. compared 2 laptops, settings identical. one sends one won't.

I have a new laptop but have not upgraded to windows 10. still running 8.1. thunderbird is receiving my emails but will not send. My old laptop which has been upgraded to windows 10 with the exact same email settings sends and receives just fine. I have checked the version of Tbird on both and it is the latest version on both. I read the one response from someone on a forum and checked what is said but my settings are already what his answer was. I do not have any virus programs running to cause this. Is there a fix? running a 64 bit Dell Inspiron 15 with 8g.. just out of box a week ago. This is the forum question and answer that I followed...https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1053679

When you try to send, what happens ? What error message do you get....word for word?

Is it a gmail mail account?

Do you have more than one mail account in thunderbird?

It just freezes and says 'inbox thunderbird is not responding'. I only have one email account in Thunderbird. My calendar is freezing up too when I try to add something to the calendar like an appointment or something

A couple of things to check:

RE: Sending Do you have an anti-virus product scanning outgoing mail ? If yes, suggest you switch off scanning outgoing mail.

then retest sending.
