Messege downloading seems stuck due to Norton email scanner

more options

The problem started occurring a couple of weeks ago (I guess with the latest Norton/Thunderbird updates). The program runs fine however the bottom progress pane is stuck on "message downloading" and won't allow any messages to be downloaded. restarting seems to allow it a couple of runs before it gets stuck again and disabling the Email scanner seems to solve it completely, however since it's downloading from a non SSL POP3 server, I'd prefer to keep the mail scanner on.

Thanks for helping!

I suggest you as Symantec to fix Norton's then. Regardless of the so called security that Mail scanning provides. I do not believe email scanning is of any practical use at all. It is however a constant cause of download issues, missing mail, entire inbox folder being deleted and other interesting and non helpful actions.

Symantec themselves offer turning off mail scanning as a workaround to a number if issues their product causes, and every such recommendation comes with the disclaimer that your will still be protected, by the real time scanner.

Thanks! Can you recommend an antivirus that doesn't conflict with Thunderbird?
