No idea, does a crash report get submitted to Mozilla?

christ1,
Are you asking for the crash ID?

Your crash is possibly related to filters. There is an existing bug report for this type of crash, but no fix. Can you try disabling filters temporarily, and move those messages manually? Then try again with filters.
Thank you for the advice.
I do use many filters. I can't disable the filters before Thunderbird crashes. Is there a way to disable filters without being in Thunderbird?!?
Make hidden files and folders visible:
The AppData folder is folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize → Folder and Search Options → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".
If TB stores in the default location, this is where the Profile is stored. C:\Users\Windows user name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\Profile name\
If Pop mail Account or Local Folders account:
- Click on 'Mail' folder
If IMAP mail account:
- Click on 'ImapMail' folder
click on account name look for this file : msgFilterRules.dat
Suggest you copy paste this file as a backup copy and store outside of Thunderbird eg: Create a 'TB Backup' folder on desktop
Note: each mail account will have it's own msgFilterRules.dat file.
The msgFilterRules.dat file can be opened with 'Notepad'. It will say this in the top two lines: version="9" logging="yes"
then it will list the Filters, one after the other. This is just an example: name="Potty" enabled="yes" type="17" action="Copy to folder" actionValue="mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Inbox" condition="AND (body,contains,Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable)"
As you have a backup copy of this file, edit as specified below.
First try resetting all the 'enabled="yes" to "no":
- Edit > Replace:
- Find what: enabled="yes"
- replace with: enabled="no"
- click on 'Replace All' button
If after editing the file, Test Thunderbird - if still crashes then Close Thunderbird. Suggest you delete all contents except the top two lines. (ensure you have got a copy of this file) Save file.
then restart Thunderbird and test.
After disabling all filters (setting enabled=no) , did TB start ok ?
Or did you have to remove all the filters to force TB to restart?
I had similar problem since automatic updates of Windows Vista and Thunderbird yesterday (09 Sep 2015). It crashed within seconds of starting, even in safe mode. I don't use filters.

I looked up the crash report and found 2 related bug reports, one fixed in 2012 for V18, the other recent and unresolved: 1198709 crash in NS_strlen(wchar_t const*), TB 38.1.0, Irish (ga-IE) locale.
The fault seems to be specific to Irish (ga-IE) language, as I also have this. I tested by installing the English language version and the problem disappeared. A similar problem may exist with other non-English language versions.
