I've been using thunderbird for 3 years. Today I open it and EVERYTHING is gone? The instructions to "move,restore, etc. profile" DOES NOT HELP. Can anyone help

OK, as stated in opening diatribe, Thunderbird has been FANTASTIC, except for yesterday. And when it went bad, it went BAD!

I've followed the instructions for moving, copying, migrating, and all of the profile instructions, but they DID NOT fix the problem.

If I go into the profile folder, I can see the lists of all my old email, which I want to recover, but I can't get them to show, by following the fixes extolled in the copying, moving, etc., help files.

I'd be glad to send any screen shots, etc., to get this resolved.

So, I started recreating my TB. I went in and set all of the emails to IMAP, and it pulled the original folders off of my server.

It's a start.

I'd still like to know WHY THIS HAPPENED!?!

Frustrating for such a great program to have such a huge problem, with NO EASY (In plain English) FIX.

I clicked on approximately 30 different links that come up on the Thunderbird help pages when you type in missing profile.

I think your best advice is to be found there. Thunderbird loosing a profile location happens occasionally and it is not difficult to fix, is it is just lost and not damaged. Damaged profiles are a whole other thing.

Basically, all the reading will take you to the profile manager. Start Thunderbird using the command line "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P select the shortcut on your desktop to Thunderbird (right click > properties) change the target to include the -P on the end and save the change

Tell the profile manager to create a new profile, give it a new name and point the folder picker to your existing profile, that should restore things to normal.

I just wonder what you think anyone can do to "look into it" this is a forum, so any and all information is based on what your tell us. If our answers are inadequate, that probably means we don't understand your problem.

Is your profile damaged? I have no idea. The link I gave you provides sufficient information you to be able to answer that question.

I provided that information on the assumption that your answer to Christ1 was Yes. But what we have here is about Zero information from you and a complete failure to respond to questions. So we keep guessing and firing off more possible solutions in the hope one of them will hit the mark.

If you want answers, first define the problem and participate in the process by answering the questions you get asked.

The profile would NOT work after following ALL of the information on the links you stated to look at.

What DID work was pulling the emails off of my server AFTER I set TB up again.

And don't point fingers at me, when I already stated I had gone through all of those KB answers already. Why would you point me to them AGAIN after I had already stated it didn't work? THAT'S what is so frustrating.

If there was a specific format for me to post the information needed to fix the problem, maybe THAT would be a better thing for me to have asked.

I will attempt to forward as much information as possible, i guess through Bugzilla?
