I updated to the latest firefox version 25 a couple days ago and it has made my firefox basically unusable. None of the buttons or fill in boxes show up. Some of the lettering for the buttons show up but there is no outline or anything that shows it's a button and there is no outlines to show where to fill in information such as a user id or password. Is there a fix in the works for this? Or, is there a way to back up to an earlier version that works properly?? At this point, I am having to use another browser, even tho firefox is my favorite, without being able to see a webpage properly, this version of firefox is unusable for me. I'm using version 25.0. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings (temporarily try to choose another setting and switch back if the following suggestion doesn't apply).

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Note that these settings affect background images.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Please report back soon.

I think it's fixed. I'm very near sighted so I always customize my fonts to one that is very easy for me to read and at a higher point count than most websites use. Often when a new update for firefox comes out, I have to reset my fonts to my own settings again. Somehow this time I unchecked the 'let websites use their own colors' setting. In cor-el's answer he mentions making sure I have allow pages to choose their own colors, when I set that option back to that, my buttons and fill in boxes are back!! Thank you so much cor-el and to everyone that answered!! I really appreciate all your help!!! :-)

You can use the NoSquint extension to set font size (text/page zoom) and text color on web pages.
