Hi in an attempt to test and try out the new Firefox I have encountered a little snag per say. The problem is, despite what I try I cannot seem to make the "NEW" download window automatically appear like the old one did when a download is started.

I have followed theses steps outlined in a similar question (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/955101?esab=a&as=aaq) but they only seem to affect the "OLD" window, not the "NEW" one:

Type about:config into the address bar and press Enter.
Press the big button to bypass the warning.
Set the value of the browser.download.manager.showWhenStarting preference to true
Set the value of the browser.download.manager.focusWhenStarting preference to true
   Restart Firefox.

Any suggestions besides sticking to the "OLD" window? Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is not possible. When a download is in progress then you see a download progress bar on the Navigation Toolbar instead of the Download Manager button and that button is highlighted once the download has finished to make you aware the their are new downloads.

You can view the new Download Manager in a tab by opening the about:downloads page and consider to open this page in a separate window.

Well the information posted is misleading then. When you click on the learn more link on the update window your brought to the info on new features where it displays an entry to learn more on the new download experience and on that page in the subtitle it states about learning how to REVERT to the old download window of which there is no info in the text below it. If you can't revert to the old window it shouldn't claim that.

Software engineers can never leave well enough alone. Updating to fix problems, loopholes and such is great but when they do it they need to leave an option for us to leave out the interface changes so it will work and look the same for the user. They really infuriate a lot of their users when they keep changing things all the time. And Mozilla is one of the worst offenders for this since it seems like they have an update about every week and a half.

LunaEros, did you read what the OP was requsting?
He was asking about having the new downloads window appear like the old window did. It is possible to have the old downloads window appear automatically in Firefox 20.

According to his post, if you read it correctly, he said "despite what I try I cannot seem to make the "NEW" download window automatically appear like the old one". Now maybe for some reason that particular fix doesn't want to work in his system and I can't say for myself either since I haven't downloaded v20+ and tried it. It may work on my system. But my comment about software engineers still stands none the less.

I endorse the view of the fellow who said software engineers are addicted to making changes even though no one asked for them. I did sw engineering for some 20 years and had to slap my hand ofter to avoid this plague on my clients.

This new model is awful. The flashing green download button is inconspicuous at best and invisible at worst. The old model worked very well. Why in blazes did it need to be changed. And why cannot be changed back?
