The "lock" icon has an exclamation point on all secure websites I visit. I have windows XP and if I cannot fix this problem, will have no choice but switch to another browser.
Every time I visit a https (secured site), there is an exclamation point next to the lock icon. This happens to ALL secured sites I visit. I think it is a Firefox bug but I do not know how to fix it. Please help me fix this problem. I've unistalled Firefox and then installed it again and still have same problem. I have Firefox 3.6.22 and Windows XP.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I started Firefox in safe mode and went to secured websites like Paypal, Wells Fargo, etc. and the lock icon didn't have the exclamation point next to it. When I check the plugs in, they are all disabled in the safe mode. However, after exiting safemode, the exclamation point shows up again next to the lock icon. What am I doing wrong? Very sorry but I'm a beginner so would really appreciate step-by-step instructions. THANKS VERY MUCH.
Did you disable all extensions to see if that helps?
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
- Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
- Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
THANKS ZILLIONS!!!! Followed your instructions and now the exclamation point is gone. Really appreciate your help.
You're welcome
