Hi, there.

On July 11 Mozilla released FF 5.0.1 to bring increased compatibility with Mac OS X Lion. You said:

Please note: Users on Windows and Linux do not need and will not see the update offer.

Yesterday I noticed that FF 5.0.1 for Linux and Windows are available.

Yet I can't find any credible information on the Internet what's all about. "Security Advisories for Firefox", "Mozilla Foundation Security Advisories", and "US-CERT Current Activity" pages have no mention of FF 5.0.1 for Linux and Windows at all.

Could you please shed some light about that particular and yet mysterious release?

Thanks in advance.

So that all OSs have the same Firefox version number. Something about the update server, I believe. You appear to already have Firefox 5.0.1 installed. See Finding your Firefox version

Thanks, SafeBrowser. I updated my XP to the latest FF after my Linux box prompted me to do the same.

I blindly installed FF 5.0.1 on both machines and then started wondering what's all about.

The long answer to explain why there are even 5.0.1 builds fro Windows and Linux on mozilla.com even though there are no updates or not actually needed.

Thanks, James.

I recall that Wordpress.org server was hacked a while ago and infected WP version was placed instead of the valid one for downloading.

So, just in the dark corner of my paranoid brain, having heard all those recent stories about high-profile military and others servers being exploited, came up a question: why there is no official announcement for Windows and Linux FF 5.0.1?

So I started sort of digging out.  :)

Thanks again for your support, James.
