Firefox on Android phone refuses to sync

For years, I've been using FF on desktop (Linux), tablet (Android) and phone (Android - Samsung S24+). Sync has never been a problem until two weeks ago when FF on the phone has either refused to sync when I tapped the command, or hasn't synced for many hours or sometimes days (which is why I tried to do it manually). So, I signed out of my FF account on all 3 devices and then signed back in. The desktop computer and tablet are syncing normally, but the phone still won't sync. When I tap the 3-dot menu on the phone and then my name, it says the phone has NEVER been synced and tapping the sync command does nothing. Under "Choose what to sync", all options are checked, but greyed out. Can't change them, in other words. When I access bookmarks on the phone, it properly shows what was there before the last sync. The phone is running FF version 150.0 Build 2016155439

Hey Doug,

That sounds frustrating for sure. Have you tried logging out of Mozilla account on your Android phone and see if it help?

I've tried that, Kiki. Nothing helps and it's getting worse. I just noticed that FF hasn't synced in 22 hours. This browser is quickly becoming useless.

Was there any error message when the sync failed?

No error messages. This problem might be less of a concern if there was a way to export a copy of bookmarks from the mobile FF. That way, we could make a physical backup. But apparently, the developers don't think backups are important.

I hear you there. In fact, the team is actually working on the functionality to allow for bookmark import from an HTML file. Though the ability to export is still in discussion.

Bookmark export exists on the desktop version. Are there two separate teams of devs who never speak to each other?

Hey Doug,

Firefox mobile and desktop versions are 2 different products and the import/export capability is a known gap on Firefox for Android. It doesn't mean our devs are not talking to each other. They're just working through a different set of priorities.

I've got the same problem with FF for Android. Uninstalling and reinstalling FF worked for a day or so and then right back to endlessly saying it's syncing with no results. PC is working fine.

Hi mtullos11,

Did you see an error message when that happen?

I have this exact same issue on my Galaxy S24 Ultra, but not my Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. Nothing short of clearing data/cache will fix it. Then it will do it again less than 24 hours later.

There's been slow syncs before, but never has it failed for days on end. Re-installation does not permanently fix it, only temporarily like the above fix.

I do use a Tailscale exit node while at work. But that hasn't caused issues before.

edit: I just installed Firefox Beta, and we'll see if the issue persists.

Aikion, I'll be interested to know what you find out with the beta version.

Still syncing on build 151.0b10. Where the regular app would've stopped by now. Still too early to tell if it's fully fixed.

Edit: It's still bugged on beta. Synced before work this morning, and it cleared my synced tabs less than an hour later. Then refused to sync again. Just sits there and spins.

Force close didnt kick it out of whatever stuck loop it's in. Though the problem doesn't affect the regular firefox app at the same time. Regular firefox synced when beta is stuck.

I'm sure it'll get stuck within 48 hours, and I'll have to sign out and back into the app and a dozen sites again.

Edit 2: Now Beta is syncing again. Dunno if regular syncing kicked it out or beta fixed itaelf.
