I have a few e-mail addresses in Thunderbird. Something weird is happening. When I send from address A, the e-mails are getting duplicated so that the same e-mail appears in my sent file under adress A and address B. The recipient is getting the e-mail sent from address B, even though I composed and sent it from address A. Any idea what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks.

Hi David. Thanks for your response. I don't want to post screenshots as they will contain the e-mail adresses, however the settings are as follows:-

Description: AOL Mail Server Name: smtp.aol.com Port: 465 Default:465 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal password User Name: xxxxxxxx@aol.com

Description: Google Mail Server Name: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 Default:465 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2 User Name: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com

Does that help?

Ok. I have no solution yet, just looking for idea. for the account pane for the AOL account, what is the text on the bottom row that links to SMTP server? Same question for the Gmail account pane, the text on the bottom row? Knowing that should at least identify a common issue. Also, does the problem happen when sending AOL message and also when sending GMAIL message?

Outgoing Server (SMTP): AOL Mail - smtp.aol.com (Default) Outgoing Server (SMTP): Google Mail - smtp.gmail.com

I'm writing and sending from aol and it's getting duplicated in gmail, not the other way round.

I will see if I can locate someone with more knowledge on this. I'm stumped.

When composing an email and it has an aol email address in 'FROM', it does not mean you are sending using aol server.

This sounds like you have: Account Settings > Copies & Folders for AOL account saying Save a copy of sent email in the Sent folder on AOL account. It also sounds like you are sending using the gmail smtp server and not aol. In which case gmail will auto put anything you send in the Sent MAil folder and because you sent via gmail that's what the recipient will see.

Please upload the following information as images so I can see what Thunderbird has got set up. It's important not to assume anything, that's why I need images.

First image:

  • In Thunderbird, Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • Scroll down to 'Mail and News Accounts' section
  • Get a screenshot of that area (use the 'Prt Scr' key on keyboard), open up a simple Paint program, use Ctrl+V to auto insert screenshot into Paint, then save file as jpeg on eg: desktop.
  • In this forum question use the Add images 'Browse' button to locate the saved jpeg image file and click on 'Open' to upload.

Second image:

  • In 'Account Settings'
  • In left pane select the name of the aol account
  • Look bottom right and click on 'Edit SMTP Server' button
  • DO NOT edit anything, this is important - just post a screen dump image of what you see.
