I believe you access icloud with a browser. Why do you want to use tbird? If possible, it would be an imap account you want to set-up I believe. Icloud wants an apple id password.

If using Windows OS - I believe you have to Look in the windows App store to get icloud app. enable 2FA and create an app specific password which you then use in Thunderbird instead of normal password.

I believe the poster just wants to set up an Apple e-mail account.

You must create an app-specific password at account.apple.com and use that password in Thunderbird.

Set it up as an IMAP account.

This query is probably redundant with https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1502245

I assumed that was the case but did not assume they were using a MAC. Hence info regarding if using Windows OS.

Is a separate app needed on Windows to set up an Apple e-mail account in Thunderbird?

Setting up in Thunderbird has specific server settings and it seems - if using an email client - icloud likes you to use 2FA and an app specific password.

How to generate app specific password info: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/102654

When creating a mail account for existing icloud email address: New Account > Email Type in your full name, iCloud email address, and the app-specific passcode that was established. Make sure to select the 'Remember Password' checkbox. Click on 'Continue' Check the following has been set up. Use the 'Configure Manually' button if required. IMAP:

  • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
  • Port: 993
  • Connection SEcurity: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password
  • User name : full icloud email address
  • Password : the app specific password you generated

SMTP

  • Server Name: smtp.mail.me.com
  • Port: 587
  • Connection SEcurity: STARTTLS
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password
  • User name : full icloud email address
  • Password : the app specific password you generated

If person had MAC and/or Windows - there is an icloud app that can be used in Windows OS which may help.

Did some digging and found the following useful sites: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/102525 https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/icloud-windows/welcome/icloud https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/icloud-windows/icwa12798053/icloud https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/icloud-windows/aside/icwc4a60941e/1.0/icloud/1.0 https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/icloud-windows/icwd3c1cca5e/icloud

I believe that only an app-specific password is needed to set up an e-mail account, not 2FA and not a separate app. They are needed when using other iCloud services.

“Mac”, by the way, not “MAC”.  :)

Thank you! I had to SLOWLY go through the steps (a bit dyslexic...). Worked great, and got my iCloud account defined to both Thunderbird desktop and mobile!

Works great! Thank you!
