With increasing regularity lately, whenever I click on my Google IMAP email folders in Thunderbird, Thunderbird complains about compacting folders (see image). If I wait a sec and retry, it's fine.

I don't know if it's a change in Thunderbird or Google, but it's frequent enough now to be predictable and annoying.

Folder properties are shown in the images below. Any ideas?

If you click on an imap folder then it gets selected - opened - the file storing the index and mbox is therefore in use and there is communication between Thunderbird and the server regarding that folder and it's contents. Compacting process makes a copy of the mbox file, rewrites it removing all the hidden marked as deleted entries and then replaces it and updates the index file. It cannot do this if you perform an action that prevents it.

So basically, do not select any folders during the process of compacting. Do not close Thunderbird whilst compacting is in progress.
