Thunderbird is by far the best email app on the market....and the fact that it is offered free of charge is amazing. No one else comes even close to all the features and how sophisticated the program is.

I have come upon a feature in version 102, that I used for years when sending out an email to 85 individual email addresses using Bcc.

Here is the process I used to use....

1. Complete an email, add subject and select Bcc. 2. Go to Address Book, where I have a Personal Address Book and a sub address book for 85 members of my team titled " Members". 3. I select the "Members" List, select "Display Name" and "Email Addresses". 4. I go to "Edit" and select "Select" and "All". This highlights all 85 of the Member Email Addresses. 5. I use to be able to select any address of the highlighted emails and move them over to the Bcc Area. 6. This is where things go bad. 102 puts everything in the Bcc area including the title of the list and many other non-email addresses. 7. When hitting "Send", the error message comes up that this cannot be sent and shows all the non-email words including the title of the address book. This did NOT happen in the previous version of your very wonderful app.

What am I doing wrong or what can be done to avoid this problem...?

I cannot create the senario you detailed from the 'Address Book'. The 'Edit' > 'Select' > 'All' highlights the editing of each entry - this is what I deem as not correct. In my case it is not actually selecting each contact and it does not offer 'Write' unless I first select one contact and then upon clicking on Write it is now only opening a new write with one contact. So I do get other problems, but then I've never used that method because I'm not 'Editing' anything.

Senario - in the 'Address Book'. > All Addresse Books > Personal Address Book > > Members > Collected Addresses

Please Note: as 'Members' is a 'Mailing List' it can only contain contacts that have an email address because it is a mailing list and not an Address Book. The 'Personal Address Book' contains: lots of contacts and a few do not have email address as I just save them for telephone numbers or their postal addresses. It also contains the name of the Mailing List called 'Members' Please Note: as 'Members' is a 'Mailing List' it can only contain contacts that have an email address because it is a mailing list and not an Address Book.

Method 1 Via the 'Write' window.

  • Click on 'Write' and create an email.
  • Enable the 'Contacts Sidebar' if it is not enabled.
  • In 'Contacts Sidebar, I select the Address Book called 'Personal Address Book'

It lists all the contacts in that Address Book including the Mailing List called Members.

  • I only want to send to those in 'Members', so in search I type: Mem as it shortens the list.
  • I select 'Members' in the list
  • Then click on 'Add to Bcc' button

the Mailing list name is added to the Bcc This method uses the Mailing List name - It does not list the individual names. Otherwise if I want to see individual names, I have to work down through the entire list of the actual address book called Personal Address Book, holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the various names which seems a waste of time since I alsready have them in the 'Members' mailing list.

If I want to do the same but this time I want to see the individual name of people in the Mailing List called Members. I can use the Address Book.

Method 2 via Address Book

  • Open 'Address Book'
  • Select the Mailing List called 'Members' to see only those people in that Mailing List.

I want to send to all names in the Mailing List You do not need to choose the column headers.

  • Select the first name/contact.
  • Hold down Shift key and click on last name in list to highlight all.
  • Click on 'Write'

Now I have to move all the contacts into a Bcc.

  • Use 'Ctrl+A' it highlights all names
  • Right click on highlighted names and choose 'Move to Bcc'
  • Complete the email and send.

It seems you may be doing more tasks than necessary (assuming I fully grasp the issue). Try this: - select 'write' to open the compose pane - press F9 to open the contacts list in left side bar - scroll to name of the memberteam and highlight it - click the 'BCC' box to add that to the list.

I don't know what you mean by non-email addresses being inserted.

re :shows all the non-email words including the title of the address book.

The only way that can occur is if you are not selecting a Mailing list. That can only occur if you are selecting an 'Address Book' name. eg: > All Addresse Books > Personal Address Book > Members > Collected Addresses

In the above senario, Members is an Address Book in it's own right. It is not a Mailing List.

In the senario below, Members is a Mailing list. You add names to a Mailing List via one of two methods. Either select a contact in the 'Personal Address Book' and drag it to hover over 'Members' list and then release to add to List OR right click on 'Members' mailing list and select 'Properties' to then type details. eg: > All Addresse Books > Personal Address Book > > Members > Collected Addresses
