Suddenly, I am getting a faint box outline on the bottom right of my browser screen. This is not like the box for blocked ads, but just grey lines which look like there was supposed to be a three dimensional box shown there. The box does nothing and text and pictures show through it, though it does make things a bit hard to read at times. If I resize the window so that it is not full screen, only part of the box appears. It does not appear in other apps or programs. I have tried several different settings changes and refreshed Firefox, but the problem persists. I am running Windows 11, with an NVidea GeForce GTX 1080 video card.

Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks.

I had already done that. I finally gave up on Firefox being the problem and started looking at Windows. What solved the problem finally a few minutes ago was uninstalling my monitor and reinstalling it along with the monitor driver. I use two monitors on this system and only one displayed the problem when I opened Firefox on the second one. I had not done that before, but it certainly zoomed in on the possible culprits.

Thanks for replying.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
