Thunderbird Version Update
Support page indicated e-mail migration from Outlook had to be in Version 31.8, then allow Thunderbird to automatically update to latest version. Successfully completed migration to version 31.8, however the About Thunderbird window states that "Thunderbird is up to date" and "You are currently on the release update channel." It does not automatically update to anything.
Alternatively tried changing profile pointing, also moving Local Folders mail to profile folder for updated version 91.4.1 also installed on computer without success.
Any way to convince 31.8 to update?

It is not advisable to attemt to try to use the 'update' to get to the latest update because there have been so many major changes since version 31.8. It really does not work very well.
It would be better to create a backup of the Thunderbird folder C://Users/user name/Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird
Then uninstall the version you are using and reinstall next major release version. Run Thunderbird and check all is ok, you can send, receive and address books are still visible.
Note win64 became available in 60.0
45.0 = http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/45.0/ 52.0 = http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/52.0/ 60.0 = http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/60.0/ 68.0 = http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/68.0/ 78.0 = http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/78.0/ 91.0 = http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/91.0/
You can get info on different release here: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/releases/
Repeat process until you get to version 91.0
I advise a backup prior to update as you are performing big jumps and there were many changes to file formats and new files for dedicated profile per installation. You hopefully will not need to use the backup, but it is a sensible precaution.

I had this same problem, so I started to follow the recommended solution.
I manually installed 45. I then opened "Help / About", and Thunderbird offered an automatic update to 45.8. I assumed that the automatic updates would be more reliable from this point onwards, so I let Thunderbird install the updates. It installed: 45.8 60.9.1 68.12.1 78.14 91.9.1 91.10
Everything seems to be running well now.
