I was using Firefox on a 2015 Macbook Air for the longest time and I was perfectly happy with it. It saved my bookmarks, history, and the handy little bookmark toolbar at the top of the page that I could just click my top visited websites. I just upgraded to a new Macbook Air and installed Firefox again because I was so happy with it before. Well, now it's terrible and I wish I could install a later version. I started it up, saved certain websites for my bookmarks and put my most visited websites up at the top of the page (enabled bookmark toolbar). I thought all was well until I exited out and started Firefox again. All of my information was gone, including my bookmarks and bookmark toolbar. There's an option to create a Firefox account, so I did that thinking it would solve the problem. Repeated all steps from before with my bookmarks. Exited out and started Firefox again, everything gone. Noticed I was signed out of my account, signed back in; everything gone. Also, same annoying startup pages as if I had just downloaded it.

This is so infuriating! I want to keep using Firefox because I liked it so much before, but not if these crap keeps happening! I'm hoping to get a solution, otherwise I guess I'll just have to start using Safari.

This is a pretty common mistake the Mac users make. If you run Firefox directly from the firefox.dmg that you downloaded, you will have this issue. It's because Firefox thinks it's a new installation every time that you open it, so it makes a new blank profile for you.

You can confirm this by going to the about:profiles page in Firefox. Most users will only have one profile listed there, but you likely have many (one for each time you started Firefox.

To correct this, the firefox.app file from within the DMG file needs to be copied into the Applications folder on your computer. Then you need to open Firefox from there instead of the DMG. See How to download and install Firefox on Mac.

Hope this helps.
