Is it possible to allow Firefox Preview to open links in their respective apps instead of having to click the 'Open in App' button every time?'

Example:

I want to open a reddit link in a native Android app.

Current situation:

I click the link and the browser redirects me to the respective Reddit web page. I open the menu and click the 'Open in App' button.

Ideal situation:

I click the link and the native Android app opens.

Reasoning:

It saves clicks and bandwidth by not opening the Reddit web page.

Hi

I should be able to help with this:

  • Open the Firefox preview menu
  • Select Settings
  • Scroll down to Open links in apps

Switch this on and links should open automatically in the native Android app.

Thanks for reaching out to me. I can't find the "Open links in App" switch in the settings menu. Is this the menu that shows when clicking the three vertical dots on the bottom right and then clicking "Settings" with the little cog before it?

Yes, that is the one.

I must admit that I using the Nightly test version, so if the app option is not in Settings, it soon will be.

Although the feature is added in firefox nightly preview it does not work properly like chrome or edge...most of the cases it is unable to identify the app and refuse to open...in other cases it opens the link in app and also the link in browser which seems redundant.

Attaching one screenshot. If i open this link in edge or chrome it directly opens in amazon app.... Same for some playstore app links.

I guess that's the reason why it's still in the nightly version. Hopefully they fix the issues you addressed before releasing it into the next preview version.
