Hyperlinks in Outlook.com emails do not work after recent Firevox update.

Firefox updated. and ever since, hyperlinks in Outlook.com emails do not work. I cleared cache/cookies and rebooted my machine. I then log into my Outlook.com emails and if I open an email with a hyperlink, it will work, but if I try a second email with a hyperlink, it stops working. I have to refresh my browser to be able to click on each hyperlinks. Also, I am not able to highlight any text with my cursor. Help please

This issue has been fixed with the Firefox 58.0.2 release.

I apologize for not updating this thread; there are more than a dozen going.

This problem should be fixed in the next Firefox 58 update -- 1-3 weeks from now. Until then, you can try one of these workarounds:

(1) Use the Reading pane

If you have a wide display, you could try using the Reading pane on the right side of the Inbox.


(2) Use older layout code within Firefox

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste stylo and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the layout.css.stylo-blocklist.enabled preference to switch the value from false to true

(D) Double-click the layout.css.stylo-blocklist.blocked_domains preference and set the value to live.com and click OK. (In the unlikely event that you already had one or more sites listed add ,live.com to the list.)

Then exit/quit Firefox and start it up again to make the change effective.

Joseph_Frank....thanks for your efforts. I was just about to complete your 12-step program when you posted that the issues returned. As noted above, a "formal bug report" has been filed. Will it be fixed any time soon?....hate to be pessimistic, but I don't think this at that top of FF's fix-it list. I don't use IE because of security issues, and just don't like how Chrome is laid out....so do I just sit here and suffer with this FF issue? I did discover that many links have a small fraction of the underlined URL that is clickable. You have to hover over the underlined portion and find the spot where your cursor turns from an arrow to a pointed finger. As for trying to highlight text with the cursor, I've still not been able to get this to work. Finally, for file attachments, usually opening the email and giving it 15 seconds, the option to click on the drop-down arrow to select either to open or save appears. If you're too quick to click on the attachment, FF will bounce you back to a random spot in your inbox. A new problem I discovered: if I try to create a NEW email, and I'm too quick and click on the subject line after entering the email address, I'm bounced back to that random spot in the inbox again. Using the TAB button works better. I'm none too happy....but I'm adjusting until this is fixed.

Thanks for your reply and your comments I also forgot to mention, YES, I have the same problem you described (as quoted) above if I click the subject line in creating an email, after installing the email recipient email address. entering the subject line, I randomly get shunted to either the inbox, - OR - it opens a totally irrelevant stored inbox-email from days or weeks ago !!!

I generally do not use the long patently unreliable (MSN) Internet Explorer at all - or very rarely -- unless I need to do so for an occasional website video or such that doesn't open in Firefox -- (i get a popup notice stating ..."your flash driver - plugin is out of date --- please update it " -- but it IS up to date and the video opens and works fine in Google or Internet Explorer.

It is a shame that the long superior operating Firefox Browser has in the past year or more, become increasingly hampered with more and more issues like this current one to become some unpredictable and unreliable.

A bug fix was developed last Saturday, has been tested in the "Nightly" release all week, and is expected to be in the next Firefox 58 release (58.0.2) but as far as I know, that has not been scheduled yet.

I've personally donated 10+ hours starting last Friday to ensure this got fixed and to spread word in dozens of threads on this forum and on Microsoft's Outlook.com forum about the available workarounds.

So please know that it is being taken very seriously.

The Outlook problem is definitely a growing pain from the completely new page layout code introduced in Firefox 57: as it is tweaked to fix problems one some sites, others may be revealed. Hopefully in a few months it will be as reliable as the old code. Keep reporting problems.

If you have other issues with Firefox 58, though, please start a new thread.

THANK YOU !! -- I have now carefully followed your tutorial and successfully completed those specified steps. And then closed the "about config" page TAB. I had your tutorial on a separate page pane-window to view step by step while I was doing your suggested changes.

I will now close and re-start Firefox and see if that fixes the problem as you suggest. I will post back here again to let you know (and other readers - the results of this repair attempt.

PS: I AM very computer tech skilled somewhat, and write code for website construction - but am not anywhere near being a computer software fix-geek-specialist. I doubt most Firefox users do not have even my or your tech skills ! THAT is the unfortunate problem for the vast majority of Firefox general-public users

And if they make ONE or more mistakes following a tech-tutorial, especially an involved one, they could cause even more or worse problem issues.

But I DO appreciate your help and instructions.

OK -- its been a few hours since I did your Fix Tutorial above - and SO FAR your fix for "layout.css.stylo ---" has worked (holding my breath still, heh) and all the previous issues and problems do not show up presently. Again THANK YOU

If anything changes for the worse, I WILL let you know here for your info. Hopefully it will not happen !

No solution has consistently worked. This problem has been going on for over a week. Mozilla/Firefox has still not fixed it, nor has anyone "on staff" even replied on this forum, as far as I can tell.

Some of these elaborate fixes are ridiculous. We should simply be able to click on a hyperlink and have it work!

Hi sherryar, no one is saying the problem is a good thing, it's a bug and it will be fixed.

The question is: do you want to use Firefox 58.0-58.0.1 for Outlook right now with a workaround or would you prefer to use a different browser instead? Your call.


I'll repeat the two workarounds, assuming you do not want to use the Outlook "Beta" layout, which is a third workaround:

(1) Use the Reading pane

TO Sherryar (and Jscherr 2000)

I have used the fix EXACTLY as told and suggested by Jshcer 2000 above (re: modifying the file " layout.css.stylo , ...etc ") and IT HAS WORKED as I previously reported on 2/2/18.

My Firefox IS WORKING PROPERLY NOW since I followed his instructions - so if you (Sherryar) have not at least tried it, it is simple enough at least to follow the instructions, open the "stylo" page that comes up from the search -- and see the file line that has to be fixed, and make the changes.

As of today (2/14/2018), it appears that the issues have been fixed and no longer an issue (scrolling, highlighting, and hyperlinks).
