Sometimes, apparently at random, Firefox decides to wipe the extension settings for all my extensions and deleting all my scripts from TamperMonkey.

I haven't quite figured out why this happens. It happened twice this week, it happened once last month. I just got up this morning, turned on my browser and for some reason it greeted me as if I did a fresh install of my addons, requesting me to setup all the settings and all my scripts were gone, vanished as if never installed.

Why does this happen? How do I restore the addons settings (is there any backup Firefox maintains?) and how do I prevent this from repeating.

Extensions or Addons are the property of the creators not a FF end user forum problem.

I'd agree if it was a specific problem with an Addon. Problem is that ALL my addons, at the same time suddenly were reset, as if they were reinstalled. This looks like a system problem rather than an isolated addon problem. My guess is some sort of fault loading some settings file or something holding all the extension data.

Sounds like the Profile was refreshed or a new Profile was created.

NO, Firefox doesn't backup those settings. Too hard with the variety of add-ons that a user can install. Many add-on developers add their own file or folders of files to the Profile folder, where other developers "lump" their user prefs into a preference that appears in the prefs.js file. Neither way survives a Refresh or creation of a new Profile; in fact that would be counter to doing a Refresh and the creation of a new Profile.

Another thing which might cause that is a Security Application that messes with Firefox files that it shouldn't be touching. Or even a "cleaner" type application that "cleans too well" and needs to be kept away from Firefox file in the Profile folder.

Need more input from you to go much further in trying to identify the cause.

BTW, you have an old version of Adobe Flash installed. You shoulld install the latest version of Flash 28.0.0.137 . http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/

I ran the profile manager, there are no new profiles. Also, wouldn't a profile refresh also mess with my bookmarks? They're fine. History, Firefox setting, cookies, saved form information, all fine the issue seems to be only localized to resetting the Addons.

Only security apps I have is a Firewall (TinyWall) and Anti-Virus (Avast) no cleaners (Although Avast is trying to sell me a trial by constantly saying I have gigabytes of junk and prompting me to run its cleaner). both AV nad Firewall were installed a long time ago and would be odd if they start causing issues now.

What kind of information do you need?
