I have win 10 and 7 desktops, laptops for the last year problem after problem on Firefox browsers both synced and unsynchronized with and without extensions/add-ons enabled:

1. The browsers freezes/unresponsive every 7-10 seconds.

2. Firefox bookmarks will not import to other browsers, chrome/explorer/edge

3. Periodically some virus or malware link-page keeps showing up claiming a needed Firefox critical update by downloading a script file

4. Both win 7 and 10 devices troubleshoot tool claim the Firefox program as being incompatible, to down grade to one of the former os's

5. The FF quantum addons are not even close to working, if they really at all, as the many disabled legacy extensions, if even a similar one exist

Only if I reinstall the FF application and launch it every time I use it does problems 1-3 resolve but once I close the browser those problems return when opening it again.
The several recommendations throughout the varios fourum/support pages have wasted my time resolving nothing.

ok... 1) Go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Help ? --> Troubleshooting Information Page and take a look in the Accessibility section if accessibility is set to "true" there. if yes, go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.

2}https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/import-bookmarks-html-file Of still a issue then it is a Profile problem. Create a new profile and see if still have issues https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles If not then transfer stuff to new profile.

3} Please use more than 1 scanner as each uses diff tech : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware Save your Report and google each before deleting anything as do not want to delete something you need, If need help : https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/ Post in only 1 forum, then wait.

So if stuff is found then possibly do not need this for 1.2.3 : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

4} Guess Windows has a issue : try : Repair System Registry and Files

(FOR DOING Above & Below - WINDOWS All OTHER VERSIONS - Use Search To Find Command Prompt ** Enter CMD.exe to Find COMMAND PROMPT Then Right Click & RUN AS ADMIN)

To run the SFC command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "SFC /SCANNOW" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter. For more information on using SFC, please refer to the Microsoft KB: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

Run the Windows Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) and System File Checker (SFC) tools as Administrator. The DISM and SFC tools scan the integrity of the Windows image and all protected system files replaces corrupted, damaged and incorrect versions. (FOR DOING Above & Below - WINDOWS All OTHER VERSIONS - Use Search To Find Command Prompt ** Enter CMD.exe to Find COMMAND PROMPT Then Right Click & RUN AS ADMIN) Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter.

Windows 10 To run the DISM command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu, then select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter. While running DISM you may notice the process will appear to pause at 20%. After a few minutes the operation will continue.

Note : SFC fixes files locally using files found on your system. Note : DISM goes up to Microsoft for new ones.

Reboot after.

5) disabled legacy extensions are exactly that Legacy. To track to see if a Legacy is being updated to work with ver 57 : http://bit.ly/2j0Anlj and https://mozilla.github.io/extension-finder/

info : https://www.howtogeek.com/333110/how-to-customize-firefox-quantum-and-remove-the-white-space-around-the-title-bar/ Here's a more comprehensive project which affects not only tabs but brings back the old "grid-style" options menu. https://github.com/axydavid/FirefoxUI/blob/master/README.md

It isn't completely possible to use the Australis design with Firefox 57, but depending on what you want, you might be able to customize the UI to look more like the old one: This project: https://github.com/wilfredwee/photon-australis lets you have the old tab bar appearance back in Firefox 57. You can remove the space around the address bar by right-clicking on the spaces, and choosing "remove from toolbar". Note the Black Theme is just a Example and can be found in Customize.

More info will be found at github ....

3. Chances are that those were fake updates. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/i-found-fake-firefox-update Did those "updates" look anything like that?

5. WebExtensions for Firefox 57 and later have reduced capabilities in many cases when compared to the same Legacy extension. And some of the most popular Legacy extensions lost so much in the capabilities that they had, that the extension developer decided to "hang it up" and not rewrite their extension/s into being WebExtensions. They're just gone. And for many of us, the extensibility of Firefox was the only reason that we ever started using Firefox to begin with.
