Windows 10 Home ver 1703 Latest Thunderbird Notification of new email does not work all the time it is intermittent. I have deleted Thunderbird, removed all traces from the computer and reinstalled. Still does not notify all the time. Opening and closing Thunderbird does not seem to help and reboot does nothing either. If I open the options and test the sound it always works as it is supposed to. I have 2 email addresses and both act this way in Thunderbird.

I experience the same issue: the notification sound is sporadic and inconsistent. I don't have an immediate solution for you, but it is at least possible to make the notification icon persist in the notification area if you open (W10) Settings/Personalization/Taskbar/Notification area/'Select which icons appear in the taskbar' and switch the button On for Thunderbird.
