How make a desktop icon to access a web site using OS X

I want to make an icon or label that will appear on my desktop/dock to enable me to directly to a web site. I know Firefox has that capability; I've done this before. But I can't remember or find out how to do it.

You are talking about creating a shortcut, aren't you   ?
This is how I always do it:

  •  Click anywhere on your desktop
  •  Press the 3-bar key on your keyboard
  •  Choose   'new'
  •  Copy the site's URL

You know how to go from here,   don't you   ?

Another way to do it:

  •   Resize the Firefox window so you can see both your desktop and the     FF   window on the same screen
  •   Click on the icon on the left of the address bar   (where the URL is   shown)
  •   While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the   desktop and then release the mouse button

Good luck   !

I've been trying to get shortcuts on my desktop for months now with no luck.

Happy112, "Press the 3-bar key on your keyboard"? What's the 3-bar key?

I've tried adding icons for websites to my desktop using my bookmarks, using library and using your second suggestion above.

The issue with the second suggestion for me is almost all sites I go to show the "i" in a grayed out circle. When I click on it I get the message "connection is not secure" so there is no icon to the left of the URL that I can use to place a website icon onto my desktop.

Does anybody know of a fix or workaround for this annoying problem?

Thanks

You can drag the Control Center 'i' button that replaces the previously show website's favicon instead. I don't know if dragging the tab to the desktop works because that could trigger a tear off and open a new window.

You can alternatively create a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut and add a space and the URL to the target field or command line.

This will always make the link open in Firefox as opposed to opening the default browser via an internet shortcut.

Thanks for the lighting fast response!

Ok, I was able to drag the "i" to the desktop which did add the website to my desktop but the image is the Firefox logo on what looks as a sheet of paper.

So would you know how to keep the link but change the Firefox icon logo to the website's logo?

Thanks again, such a big help!
