https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/get-community-support states "You will need to register on Mozilla Support before you can ask the question." but that sentence has no link to the registration page. It is only after stumbling around for a while that I managed to land on the registration page (starting with the "Ask a question" button at the main page top).

If you just click sign-in, you are on a page prompting for a user name and password, with no possibility of creating an account.

Hi

Thank you for letting us know. We want to make sure it is as easy as possibly for users to ask a question of the Support Team and we do look at the process to makes sure it is as easy as possible to walk through.

If I get the opportunity to, I will make sure your feedback is included the next time we look at this.

Mozilla wants new people to make a new thread of their own about their issues. The making a new thread by Ask a Question also introduces them to the Knowledge Base which could answer any questions they had.

If it was easy for people to create a new account here from start, there would be more new people hijacking existing threads with their own issues that is on exact or kinda similar issues. This does not work well for the OP as they may not get direct help anymore.

Somehow I can't reproduce my problem now...But I recall that clicking on the prominent "Ask a question" button, then the product selection page, and then the problem category page, I ended up on a page that warned me I needed to register but without offering me the possibility. Now that chain lands me on account creation, which would make my original point moot.

But I'm sure there is a navigation path that fails at this.

You can click the blue "Volunteer for Mozilla Support" button at the bottom of the "https://support.mozilla.org" page to go to the "https://support.mozilla.org/get-involved" page. Click "Answer questions in the support forum" to be able to register as a contributor.
